An Exciting High Touch Opportunity to Build the L&D Function and Shape the Workforce of the Future

The Director, Learning & Development (L&D) is a new position for CPA Ontario that will be accountable for the standup of the Learning and Development function. This exciting hands-on opportunity requires you to develop and execute the learning strategy, and introduce, engage and embed a continuous learning mindset into the CPA Ontario culture at all levels of the organization. 

The Director, Learning & Development (L&D) will develop or curate innovative and on-demand digital and instructor-led learning solutions that will drive the development and performance of the CPA Ontario team while supporting the mission, vision, and strategic initiatives of the organization. 

Reporting to the Vice President, People, the Director, Learning & Development (L&D) will leverage their experience and focus on driving innovation, developing digital capabilities, leadership development and building the workforce of the future at CPA Ontario.

Your expertise empowers you to

  • Focus on Strategy & Execution Develop a learning strategy for the organization focused on leadership development, advancing both future workforce capabilities, and skills to ensure success in current roles, across all business units.
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert. Research, recommend, design, and develop integrated, comprehensive learning solutions based on analysis and assessment of HR, internal client initiatives and learner needs that encompasses change-management and sustainment outcomes. 
  • Be the Trusted Advisor. Partner closely with business leaders and key stakeholders to design and deliver timely, high quality, interactive, audience-appropriate training solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Collaborate & Facilitate Manage and collaborate with training vendors, instructional designers, and facilitators to ensure development deliverables are in line with overall project objectives and adhere to adult learning principles and contemporary learning styles that includes facilitation of both virtual and in-person training sessions.
  • Measure Impact Measure, track, manage, and report results of all learning solutions to leadership and stakeholders to demonstrate business impact and effectiveness that provide recommendations to elevate the learner's experience and better achieve business objectives.

You are the ideal candidate with

Education and Experience:

  • University Degree preferably in Human Resources complimented with a relevant Learning & Development designation or certification/degree would be an asset
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in learning consulting or previous Learning & Development Leadership experience that includes needs analysis, design, learning consulting, program evaluation and measurement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of external best practices on emerging trends, vendors, program evaluation and measurement.
  • Proven experience and knowledge with digital training delivery is essential
  • Established comprehensive knowledge on the principles of adult learning 
  • Experience in building skills / capabilities to support workforce of the future, including digital fluency and understanding of emerging technologies
  • Experience designing and delivering training in a corporate environment and managing organization-wide programs
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office software applications and a technology curious mindset

  • Business Acumen – Your business acumen and organizational awareness, enables you to be a change management leader with good judgment and decision making 
  • Resilience – You have a proven flexibility to adapt quickly and change priorities as required 
  • Diplomacy Relationship Building Skills – You are effective in dealing fairly, frankly, assertively, and constructively with executives, senior managers, and internal and external stakeholders; You generate consensus and sustain collaborative relationships while maintaining a positive image and profile for the organization.
  • Integrity – You demonstrate a high level of integrity and are widely respected as open, honest, transparent, ethical, and trustworthy
