Job Summary

The focus of this position is working with others to build and maintain relationships and work closely and accurately within established guidelines. There is a need for an effective communicator, someone who can stimulate and motivate others while remaining responsive to their needs and concerns. There will be many different people to meet and work with, meaning the ideal candidate should be friendly and genuinely interested in the business, agenda, and needs of others. Given the ever-changing environment, work must be done on time and accurately. This is a position where guidelines, structure, and established policies must be followed, while respectfully challenging the status quo to move the organization forward. Please note this position requires you to work onsite.


Responsibilities         

  • Be the first point of contact for all hourly human resource related matters such as policy, attendance management, employee inquiries, and requests
  • Full-cycle recruitment for hourly, unionized general labours employees
  • Create and maintain recruitment reports
  • Participate in the ongoing development of our recruiting and onboarding process
  • Maintain relationships with recruitment agencies for hourly labourers
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation with supervisors and managers
  • Deliver onboarding/orientation for hourly & staff Ontario employees
  • Prepare various human resource documents including disciplinary letters and employee communications
  • Assist with disciplinary matters and ensure they are conducted and documented in accordance with company policy
  • Provide coaching and recommendations to operations regarding employee relations
  • Draft, post and collect internal job postings
  • Maintain employee related data using the Homebase system and provide system support to employees as needed
  • Assist with reporting including absence and discipline tracking and hourly seniority lists
  • Respond to employee inquires, requests, and employment needs
  • Participate and support ongoing employee and human resource initiatives
  • Work closely with Operations including the Plant Managers and Supervisors in a fast paced, deadline driven, customer focused environment
  • Participate in weekly HR team meetings both locally and corporately
  • Provide support to the Human Resources Generalist and Human Resources Manager
  • All other duties as directed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant post-secondary education in Human Resources or Industrial Relations
  • 2 -3 years human resources experience with varied responsibilities across many HR functions
  • Experience in a unionized labour environment
  • Experience with general labours and skilled workers
  • Past construction and or manufacturing experience is considered an asset
  • Technologically inclined, including advanced Excel skills
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing priorities with flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with confidence in communicating at all levels of the organization
  • Proven desire to work effectively and build trust with employees, operations and within the HR team
  • Excellent business writing and grammar skills with the ability to create documents based on limited information
  • Organized self-starter who sets priorities and drives deliverables for a wide variety of tasks with a high level of accountability
  • Ability to travel to additional plants and field sites in Ontario.
  • Occasional travel to New Brunswick
