Summary:

VON Canada is seeking a passionate, creative labour and employee relations expert to strategically manage and maintain a stable and cost-effective human resources environment.

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Senior Director, Labour and Employee Relations, is a vital member of the Human Resources leadership team and a valuable and influential contributor to the strategic direction of the human resources service for the organization. This position leads regionally to plan, coordinate, develop, and deliver an effective labour relations strategy and is accountable for establishing and maintaining national practices and standards.

VON has a large non-unionized workforce and a complex combination of 45+ collective agreements with seven separate unions.

This position provides visionary leadership for a professional labour and employee relations team that supports VON operations in Nursing, Home Support and Community Services across geographically dispersed sites and locations.

You will contribute to ensuring the highest quality client experience while building an empowered, positive work environment in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

The Senior Director will bring broad, solid generalist experience and expertise in labour and employee relations, bargaining and negotiations, performance management, reporting and statistical analysis. A proven ability to develop and maintain partnerships and work effectively in an integrated operational environment will establish you as a trusted and collaborative business partner. You will provide consultation and advice to managers and directors on many matters related to human resources.


Education, Designations and Experience:

  • University Degree in Human Resources Management or related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive HR Generalist experience with five years at a management level and includes deep expertise in labour relations and negotiations
  • Strong background in employee and labour relations in a multi-unionized environment
  • Thorough knowledge of HR principles and applicable laws and regulations
  • Professional HR designation/certification preferred
  • Previous management experience in a healthcare environment preferred
