ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT & TALENT MANAGEMENT

Temporary Full-Time (Up to 12-month assignment)

Reporting to the Director, Organizational Development & Talent Management (ODTM), the Benefits/Pension and Payroll Administrator will provide a wide range of services to employees (past and present) including but not limited to:

  • Pension administration – College of Applied Arts & Technology (CAAT Pension Plan)
  • Benefit administration – Sun Life
  • Employment status changes
  • Leave (personal, maternity/parental, retirement, etc.)
  • Life insurance and pension options
  • Payroll rate changes, confirmations and investigations
  • Benefit billing

The Administrator will ensure the accuracy of information regarding benefit changes provided to the insurance broker and will carry and ensure the timely gathering, entering and completion of personal employee information for payroll, audit forms and employee files.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) year Diploma/Degree in Human Resources Management and/or Business Administration
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Human Resources required with preference of experience in Pension & Benefit administration, HRIS system and Payroll audits with automated systems
  • Completion of related professional designation; Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS)
  • Knowledge of benefit carriers and collective agreements
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices  and governing legislation and regulations
  •  Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment with strong multi-tasking and prioritizing abilities
  • Tact and discretion to recognize and maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Strong client focus with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity
  • Ability to gather information, analyze, evaluate, formulate and recommend appropriate courses of action
  • Professional demeanour with a strong customer service orientation and effective presentation and interpersonal skills.  Must have strong verbal and written communication skills with superior attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Demonstrated skills with creative problem solving
  • Excellent follow-through skills and proven ability to take initiative accompanied with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency with computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office 365: Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint and experience maintaining web page software

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for providing professional, confidential support to the Organizational Development & Talent Management Team in the areas of Pension & Benefits Administration, HRIS, and new employee onboarding
  • Provide information and guidance to College management and employees regarding a variety of human resources matters related to pension, benefits and payroll
  • ·nterpret various human resources policies, procedures, collective agreements and pension and benefit plan documents to ensure that the College is compliant with legislative and provincial College system requirements relating to the human resources function
  • Meet with new employee and current employees who are changing status to enroll them in the appropriate benefit, life insurance, sick benefit, LTD, pension and vacation plans
  • Act as the liaison between Canadore employees, payroll, the college and our Brokers, Sun Life Financial
  • Audit employee files for payroll investigations on rate changes
  • Research pension information including buy back with the College of Applied Arts & Technology (CAAT Pension Plan
  • Download and prepare reports related to pension, benefit and payroll audits
  • Assist with various ODTM projects
