As a member of the Human Resources (HR) team, reporting directly to the HR Director, and working closely with management, you will be responsible for enhancing HR processes and employee/ labour relations, encouraging staff development, and implementing changes regarding HR strategies and practices. Your day-to-day responsibilities will consist of:

•    Executes HR strategy that guides employee life cycle i.e. attract, recruit, onboard, develop, retain.
•    Contributes to the development and delivery of the collective bargaining strategy, participates in negotiations
•    Provides advice and counsel to management regarding collective agreement administration and assists in the resolution of employee relations matters and labour relations grievance concerns
•    Supports the maintenance of compensation and benefit plans. 
•    Work alongside the Director of Human Resources in addressing HR, LR and service needs and issues
•    Support workforce-analysis and implements a planning process to inform human resources 
•    Develops and implements policies, practices, and systems that comply with relevant legislation, health and safety and other statutory regulations
•    Supports hiring managers with recruitment activities, such as postings, interviewing
•    Manages leaves of absences and accommodation process with support from the HR Administrator
•    Other duties as assigned

Flexible hours / occasional evening/weekends may be required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related program; or a Bachelor’s degree with a post-graduate certificate in Human Resources
•    Member of the Human Resources Professional Association and possess either a CHRP or CHRL designation
•    3-5 years of experience within an HR department
•    Experience working in a unionized environment 
•    Familiar with payroll and benefits systems
•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to deal effectively with individuals at levels of the organization using sensitivity and tact
•    Strong organization skills and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines 
•    Effective decision making skills with the ability to work independently 
•    Adaptable, diplomatic, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality 
•    Strong attention to detail and the ability to learn systems and databases used by the agency
