Human Resource + OHS Manager

Somerville is looking for a dynamic, hands-on, Human Resources Manager, with a strong Occupational Health and Safety background to join our team. We are an ISO 9001:2015 designer and manufacturer of retail displays and fixtures located in Toronto, Ontario. In this full-time role, you will work along side the executive leadership team, and enjoy collaborating with a variety of departments across 3 locations.

Qualifications + Position Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Human Resources Management or equivalent. CHRP or CHRL an asset.

· 3-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

· Possess active and valid Occupational Health and Safety certifications with demonstrated health and safety experience.

· Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skill

· Thorough knowledge of employment law, compensation, benefits and health and safety regulations and requirements

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including solid knowledge of Excel

· Serve as a company ambassador and demonstrate ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

 

Duties + Responsibilities:

- Manage the organization’s talent acquisition process, (including recruitment of specialized professionals and semi-skilled labourers including technical and labour-intensive activities that are required to optimize production), screening and interviewing, and subsequent hiring of qualified job applicants (full cycle recruitment through orientation)

- Collaborate with Departmental Leads to understand skills and competencies required for current openings and future talent requirements

- Provide leadership and guidance to Managers and Department Leads, and Senior leaders and stakeholders for specialized and sensitive human resources issues including discipline, reasonable accommodation, investigations, and terminations

- Continually review and update organization’s employment policies to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal legislative requirements. Formulate and recommend policies and objectives associated with employee relations and rights that support organizational positive employer-employee relationships

- Monitor and maintain organization’s attendance management system, including vacation scheduling

- Manage the organization’s compensation and benefits strategy, analyzing trends. Research competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure it supports organization’s recruitment goals

- Maintain and update job requirements and job descriptions, organizations’ appraisal and performance review process

- Maintain employee benefits program, informing employees of changes where required. Review and assess benefits program requirements and costing, obtain, and evaluate benefit plan bids, making recommendations to management. Design and conduct educational sessions on benefits programs

- Maintain company directories and organizational information

- Develop and execute health and safety plans according to legislative and industry guidelines

- Lead the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and legislative compliance of the organization’s health and safety program including training, WSIB filings and case management

- Enforce safety policies to establish a culture of safety and ensure job safety is maintained through supervisor support and inspections

- Other duties as required to ensure organizational development and employee engagement
