Experienced in claims management, and knowledgeable about the new Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) Framework, you welcome this opportunity to act as a subject matter expert as part of the Occupational Health and Wellness team in the University of Guelph’s Human Resources Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health and Wellness, you will support and facilitate the early and safe return to work of employees – to their highest level of function – following a workplace injury or illness. Some of your specific responsibilities as WSIB Specialist will include:

  • Managing all WSIB claims and accommodations through integrated case management using a proactive approach that involves the development, implementation and management of early and safe return-to-work and accommodation plans.
  • Promoting a safe and healthy work environment to reduce lost time due to occupational injury or illness.
  • Monitoring Workplace Safety and Insurance Board costs, assessing for cost recovery, and providing quarterly reports on claims, including trends, recommendations to reduce injuries and prevention strategies.
  • Carrying out WSIB policy and procedure review and development.
  • Developing WSIB training materials and presentations.
  • Providing non-occupational case management support, as required.

To fulfill the role of WSIB Specialist, you must be a results-oriented disability case management and claims leader with a profile that includes:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field along with a minimum of five (5) years of Disability Case Management experience working with short-term disability and workers′ compensation claims.
  • A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of workers′ compensation claims experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation (i.e., Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards, Human Rights).
  • WSIB appeals experience.
  • Knowledge of the new WSIB Framework.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent facilitation, mediation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with situations that are sensitive and require tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to problem-solve and multi-task.
