The Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OCAPDD / Open Hands) is a learning organization and leader in the Developmental Services sector in Ontario, supporting over 900 people with developmental disabilities to successfully live in the communities of Ottawa and Cornwall. Supported by a dedicated team of over 650 employees overseeing the operation of several residences, day programs, and support services, OCAPDD / Open Hands is committed to advancing its vision of individuals with development disability living healthy, safe, and secure lives as participating members of society through equitable access to the broadest range of societal supports and opportunities.

It is within this context that the organization has an exciting career opportunity for the Director of Human Resources.

Reporting to the Executive Director, and as a key member of a high-functioning and collaborative senior management team, the Director of Human Resources will be responsible for the overall OCAPDD / Open Hands employee experience. You will be responsible for labour & employee relations in a unionized environment, compensation & benefits, staffing & employee recognition, health & safety, training & development, WSIB, and policy development. As a team leader and manager, you will continue to advance a culture of respect, collaboration, and accountability.

As the ideal candidate, you possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent and, ideally, a Master’s degree. You have a minimum of ten years of progressive experience, with five years at the management level, ideally within a social services or people care environment. A visible, engaging, and inspiring people leader, you are known for your ability to build high-performing teams and providing effective coaching and mentorship. A strong communicator and relationship builder, you skillfully navigate interpersonal relationships across an organization, and manage competing interests in a highly professional and effective manner. Creative and solutions oriented, you have demonstrated an ability to balance big picture thinking with the capacity to provide hands-on support as required. Your experience in and understanding of unionized environments would serve you well in this role, and bilingualism (English and French) is a mandatory requirement.
