Purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Human Resources and Corporate Administration, the Human Resources Generalist provides timely, accurate, and effective human resources support to all Airport employees and stakeholders in all areas of human resources management including, but not limited to: recruitment, employee relations, collective agreement administration, WSIB, return-to- work coordination, employee training and development, orientation and onboarding, HR strategy initiatives, attendance management, employee wellness, employee recognition, performance management, ADP improvements, health and safety, job evaluation, and general human resources consultation. 

As a key colleague to the Senior Coordinator, Administration, and the Coordinator, Payroll and Benefits Administration, this role will execute tactics to attract, retain and engage employees at all levels of the organization, and work closely with all employee groups. A key focus for this role will be to provide ongoing support to the Senior Manager, Human Resources & Corporate Administrative for the execution of tasks related to human resources management and corporate administration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma, preferably in Human Resources
  • Minimum four (4) years prior work experience in a similar role including experience in a unionized environment
  • Current member in good standing with the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario (HRPA) with CHRP or CHRL designation, or in progress of obtaining HR designation
  • Full proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Working knowledge of HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now is considered an asset)
  • Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality in handling sensitive company and employee information
  • Working knowledge and experience in aspects of generalist HR functions
  • In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation under the Canada Labour Code Part II
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute duties
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with union representatives, with effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Efficient time management skills to organize and manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Inspires trust and adept at developing relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to influence and collaborate to complete business requirements
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including effective group facilitation and presentation skills experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of Airport Security Clearance

 Authority:  No direct reports

Essential Functions:

  • Provide overall organizational guidance and support to ensure that internal human resources practices, policies, and procedures comply with employment law and sound leadership practices, and are applied consistently across the organization
  • Provide overall support in the recruitment process and directly manage the recruitment process for bargaining unit positions
  • Ensure ongoing updating of the Employee Handbook, Onboarding Program, policies, and procedures in line with business objectives, legislation, and progressive industry practices
  • Develop, maintain, and provide applicable training regarding HR policies and procedures that ensures fairness and equity
  • Ensure all mandatory training is completed for new hires and recurrent training requirements are completed within prescribed timelines to maintain compliance
  • Assist managers with employee development and training needs assessments, inclusive of research on various training options available
  • Act as the lead content creator for training programs in the airport’s Learning Management System (EdApp)
  • Play a key support role for the Workplace Health and Safety Committee, inclusive of research on policy and process development
  • Responsible for maintaining the Vortex system as it relates to ensuring an accurate data base of training and health and safety records, to ensure regulatory compliance is maintained
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of policies and procedures and the Collective Bargaining Agreement to effectively communicate on labour relations matters
  • Effectively collaborate with union representatives in matters of grievance and discipline, and ongoing communication
  • Provide support to key Managers in the effective management of the Airport’s Ambassador Volunteer program
  • Update, revise and create job descriptions as the business evolves
  • Assist in the development and ongoing maintenance of position-specific training plans
  • Track and report on HR metrics on a weekly, monthly, or Quarterly basis, and track and report on HR special projects as required
  • Support the delivery and feedback loop of the Employee Satisfaction Survey and Leadership Assessment process
  • Support the maintenance and delivery of the Employee onboarding program, employee development and training programs, and support the tracking of training information to ensure delivery of objectives
  • Participate in the preparation for Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiation work and track language changes from expiring agreement through renewal process
  • Support and follow-up on the performance review process
  • Managed the Lifeworks Rewards and Recognition program and develop mechanisms to effectively acknowledges employee achievements
  • Participate in the group insurance benefit renewal
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Employee EAP programs, wellness programs, and employee engagement initiatives i.e., Service Milestone awards, etc.
  • Participate in Employee and functional committees as required
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of the Employee Climate Survey and Leadership Assessments
  • Support the organization and delivery of Employee events and Staff Meetings
  • Provide administrative and performance management support to the lead Manager of the high school/post-graduate co-op student program
  • Stay current on human resource practices, case law decisions and human resource trends and best practices
  • Model a culture of openness and trust that aligns with the Airport’s Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Actively participate in activities that help mitigate risk for the airport
