The Director, Human Resources and Research Administration acts as the corporate lead for human resources and the full application of the associated policies and procedures that guide the administrative team and research staff, including scientists, investigators and research trainees.  The Director will also participate in the Management Executive Team and provide leadership  support to the OHRI’s Senior Management Team, Relationship Management Committee of the Board, Scientific Human Resources Committee and other committees as required.

The Director has oversight of OHRI’s HR Team (OHRI Human Resources Manager, Senior Human Resources Advisor, HR and Payroll Officers, and Payroll Assistants) who are responsible for the full scope of Human Resources functions at the OHRI, including but not limited to:
•Recruitment and Retention
•Compensation and Classification
•Performance Management
•Scientist Appointment and Review
•Employee Relations

The Human Resources team works closely with counterparts at varying levels at The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa, and other peer organizations, in the fulfillment of its goals and objectives.

The Director, Human Resources and Research Administration works closely with the OHRI’s Director, Corporate Governance and Compliance in the management and oversight of the Conflict of Interest Policy and the annual disclosure process, and in the development and updating of policies and procedures as required.

Basic Requirements:
•Graduate degree in Human Resources, Business, Public or Health Administration, or another health-related field
•Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), CHRE preferred.
•Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in the field of Human Resources, Employee Relations and people management.
•Superior knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures, and employment-related legislation (i.e. Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards Act, etc)
•Superior knowledge of legal principles and framework associated with all aspects of Employee Relations including but not limited to discipline and discharge, performance management, attendance management conflict resolution and workplace investigation.
•Ability to analyze problems, develop and assess solutions and provide risk management assessments to ensure legal and regulatory compliance
•Ability to provide sound advice of relevant considerations and risks in a complex, non-unionized workplace
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Excellent planning, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
•Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
•Exceptional negotiation skills
•Self-motivated, solid judgment, discretion, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience in an academic or hospital-based research institute would be considered an asset
•Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset

Salary:
Hourly:         Min: $59.8593/hr. - Max: $81.663/hr.
