Compensation & Benefits  Specialist

WORK ILLUSTRATION:

 

The Compensation and Benefits Specialist is responsible for design, development and execution of compensation, benefit and total rewards programs. This incumbent will work in a team reporting to the Supervisor, Compensation & Benefits.  

 

The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

 

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages compensation and benefit programs and projects

  • Manages relationships with external employee benefits providers, including handling escalated claims and program issues

  • Ensures employees and retirees are provided with support and communication regarding benefits programs and initiatives. May including providing support in complex and sensitive situations

  • Conducts employee benefits cost analysis, forecasting and budgeting

  • Conducts job evaluations, job audits and market analyses. Manage the job evaluation process and recommend process improvements in alignment with best practices. Provides input to employee compensation recommendations

  • Conducts complex analyses and costings related to employee compensation, including support for collective bargaining and regulatory processes. May include building costing models

  • Researches and provide information regarding changes in relevant legislation and best in class practices/programs related to compensation and benefits. Recommends new and/or updated employee programs and manage implementation of program changes

  • Provides coaching/training to other members of the Human Resources & Safety division as required to support the delivery of the employee benefits and compensation programs

  • Supports other departmental planned work, programs and strategic initiatives.  Provide back up to others in the department as required.  

 

REQUIREMENTS:                                                       

  • University degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipline

  • Five (5) years of progressive human resources experience with focus on compensation, employee benefits and job evaluation programs, projects  strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with developing and/or management of compensation, employees benefits and/or job evaluation programs and projects

  • CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader), CCP (Certified Compensation Professional), CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) or CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) designation. Candidates working towards designation or with relevant experience may be considered

  • Experience in both union and non-union environments is an asset

  • Excellent computer skills with a very thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and experience with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

  •  Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving ability

  • Superior organization and time management skills

  • Superior attention to detail, ability to maintain high quality and accuracy standards 

  • Ability to use discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
