The Faculty of Health Sciences Human Resources Office, in collaboration with Human Resources Services, provides leadership, advice, support and resources to faculty and staff to foster the creation of an environment that is inclusive, diverse and engaging.

The Human Resources Business Analyst (HRBA) will be responsible for analyzing business requirements in support of Faculty of Health Sciences Human Resources and Faculty Relations continuous improvement projects and ongoing data analysis. Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources in the Faculty of Health Sciences and will work on key projects and ongoing data needs.

The Business Analyst will strive to build effective working relationships and develop collaborative partnerships with mutually beneficial results. As a service partner, the incumbent will model a client- centric approach, building partnerships, working collaboratively on FHS initiatives, and effectively communicating with diverse communities of interest, while clearly demonstrating personal expertise.

The successful candidate will have experience creating RFI documents and analyzing responses, familiarity with HRIS systems and/or HR process/module design, and experience with applications, and/or technologies. Work experience within a Higher Education environment would be beneficial.

Job Duties: Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Reporting design/development, timely and accurate execution as per client and team needs, understanding of system capabilities and limitations, as well as business nuances to ensure accuracy of data,
  • Analytics of data to generate appropriate reporting and to utilize data
  • Conducts needs analysis as it pertains to reporting requirements
  • Assist Faculty Relations team with ensuring available reporting meets needs of the team, FHS departments and relevant stakeholders

Analysis and Solution Definition:

  • Facilitate large group information / requirement gathering sessions, and training workshops. Work closely with business owners to determine business requirements, eliciting requirements through interviews, document analysis, workshops, surveys, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, and task and work flow analysis. Analyze and critically evaluate information gathered from the various working Groups and other key sources, reconciling conflicts and deconstructing high-level information in to details. Translate abstract concepts into concrete ideas that are easily understood by non-specialist audiences Conduct in-depth Interviews with project sponsors to gather their user requirements, identify potential strengths and weaknesses of current solution and environment (SWAT analysis), and work with a team to provide a solution. Perform current state, future state gap analysis Develop and document business requirements according to standard templates, using natural language. Document business process descriptions and analysis including business rules and workflow. Write business cases.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive reports on institutional business requirements

Manage Client Relationships and deliverables

  • Collaborate with the Strategic HR Partners, HR Project leads and sponsors to determine the scope and vision of the project. Act as the conduit between the client community and the development and business process re- engineering team, or vendor through which requirements flow.
  • Provide expertise to clients with respect to the objectives of business process design.

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Identify project stakeholders and establish user classes and their characteristics.
  • Identify and establish the scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by- project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders and the project team to prioritize collected requirements.
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirement gathering processes. Translate and promote conceptual user requirements into functional requirements that are comprehensible to developers and the project team. Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders. Complete estimates of time and resources required for the implementation and analysis of new processes. Conduct cost-benefit analysis which may involve complex calculations of service levels and benefits including present value calculations, mean and standard deviation, and estimating business volumes.

Technical Recommendations, Training and Systems Testing:

  • Develop prototypes of interfaces and attributes based on user requirements.
  • Develop and conduct peer reviews of business requirements to ensure that the requirement specifications are correctly interpreted. Gather and compile information on hardware and software products that meet predetermined specifications. Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards.
  • Provide training to others when new business processes are implemented.
  • Remain current with frequent updates and changes to technology.
  • Lead testing efforts of technical components.

The successful applicant has extensive experience working with clients, business applications and processes, and understands how information technology can be used to enhance these applications and processes. They use best practices in HR/IT project management for higher education to determine business requirements, eliciting requirements through interviews, document analysis, workshops, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis and task /workflow analysis. 

Preferred Qualifications:

In depth understanding of business process and practice Experience with contract negotiation, and vendor management Working knowledge of project management methodology and scheduling techniques Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team on strategic projects Detailed understanding of HRIS/HR applications and /or HR operations/requirements Knowledge of commercial information technology standards Use standard analysis techniques for future state, current state and gap analysis Use of testing methodologies (trace, usability) from the business perspective Certifications – CCBA, CBAP, PMP, in addition to technical certifications from vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle or Cisco, and ITIL
