Domtech Inc. is a Trenton, Ontario manufacturer of electrical wire and cable products.  The company employs approximate 30 staff and 65 unionized production employees. The Human Resources Manager is a newly created position offering the successful candidate the opportunity to design and implement the HR process.

Reporting to the Co-President the successful candidate will work closely as a part of the team to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Provide generalist human resources support, guidance, coaching and direction to our Management Team, as it relates to staffing, employee relations, labour relations, training, disability management, compensation and other key areas of human resources.
  • Lead, communicate, and ensure the full span of legally sound human resources programs, policies and practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee engagement.
  • Interpret employment legislation and regulations as they relate to human resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements.
  • Lead, participate and support union-management committees, grievance and dispute resolution meetings.
  • Prepare and participate in labour negotiations as part of the management team.
  • Liaise with external partners in Unions, MOL and WSIB.
  • Prepare and participate in union mediations, and arbitrations (if required), as the organization representative.
  • Develop, implement and update human resources policies and procedures ensuring compliance with legislation.
  • Oversee the identification of potential risks from the human resources perspective.
  • Participate in management meetings by providing human resources information, training, education and updates.
  • Researching and implementing best practices where applicable throughout the organization.
  • Establish and develop training modules and deliver training to unionized and non-unionized staff as it relates to human resources matters.
  • Development of an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes high quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention/development and high-performance expectations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation: Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), Employment Standards Act (ESA), and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with the WSIB and MOL are preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and mentor other managers.
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle sensitive situations tactfully.
  • High level of critical thinking and ability to problem solve under pressure.
  • Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office/Teams.
  • High level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Organized and self-starting, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong business sense and issue resolution skills

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Certificate in Human Resources/Labour Relations
  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources, Labour Relations or another related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Human Resources Manager or an equivalent combination of other experience and education is preferred. Demonstrated involvement in union work required.
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation is preferred; Membership in the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) in good standing is preferred.
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification is an asset.
