Broadstreet Properties and Seymour Pacific Developments

Location: Campbell River, BC

As a family owned and operated company with three generations of experience, Broadstreet Properties is one of the largest privately owned real estate companies in Western Canada managing over $3 billion in assets consisting of over 12,000 multi-family unit rentals. Under the Broadstreet Properties banner (property management) and Seymour Pacific Developments (development and construction), the organization has experienced unprecedented growth over the past 35+ years. From its roots as a local single-family home builder, the company has grown to over 750 employees across British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Currently, Broadstreet Properties houses over 23,000 residents across 31 cities across Canada, while Seymour Pacific Developments operates with annual construction budgets of over $350 million. The company also owns a golf course and is in the process of opening a new hotel and launching a new hotel brand. Through this growth, the company has always retained its family values, entrepreneurial spirit, and focus on integrity, innovation and quality and has recently transitioned to its next generation of leadership.

The exponential growth of the company is expected to continue as the company expands geographically and into new market segments. Recognizing, attracting, retaining and developing the right talent and culture is critical to the continued future success of the business, the company is now seeking a Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). In this newly created role, the CHRO will take on a role as a trusted advisor and business partner to the management team and a champion of the corporate culture. The CHRO will be responsible for creating and implementing an HR strategy and best practices that enable this organization to effectively scale and meet their ambitious growth plans through innovative talent management practices. Inheriting a multi-disciplined team of 10, the CHRO will have an opportunity to build out the function but in this entrepreneurial and hands-on culture, they must be comfortable playing a tactical, hands-on role as well.

The ideal candidate will be a people and culture leader who has supported growth, expansion and the development of a strong, positive and engaged culture involving employees in multiple geographies in roles ranging from field staff to senior management. They will bring strong business acumen and experience in a high growth environment where they were a trusted advisor and business partner to an executive team. They must be comfortable playing both a strategic role in the formulation of the HR strategy, as well as a tactical role overseeing a team in the implementation of programs and projects. Resilient, confident, entrepreneurial and apolitical, the CHRO will be a strong HR operational leader with a solid background in talent management. Strong influencing skills and a pragmatic approach to HR will be required working with stakeholders in the corporate office and in the field.

The successful candidate will be based in Campbell River, BC, a town of over 37,500 people and the hub of northern Vancouver Island. For individuals and families passionate about the outdoors and a balanced lifestyle surrounded by nature, this is a tremendous opportunity to take on an impactful role with a fast-growing company while working with great people with strong values.
