Position Summary: This position provides Human Resources support to the Collingwood Management team and the HR Group Leader as well as performing: benefit/pension administration, Payroll processing, labour relations and recruiting activities. The HR Generalist reports to the HR Group Leader and works closely with Team Leaders and Supervisors.

  • Facilitate the preparation of weekly manning schedule and post in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Vacation management in accordance with the collective agreement and the company approval process.
  • Manage the plant-wide job-posting program including posting/removal of the open position and communication to team members and team leaders/managers regarding movement in a timely manner.
  • Assist employees in problem resolution
  • Responsible for maintaining positive relationship with team members in efforts to support a team-based, environment.
  • Adherence to the NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its’ Values and Principles
  • Administer attendance management program and manage disciplinary action data entry and reporting.
  • Provide assistance to employees on all HR related matters ensuring compliance to Provincial laws and accepted Company practices.
  • Prepare HR communication, post notices, monitor communication boards and support various communication initiatives.
  • Prepare and post seniority lists in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Prepare reports as requested and participate in policy development and revisions as required.
  • Plan and coordinate social activities. Lead and/or participate in special projects as required to support corporate and local business needs.
  • Investigate queries from union regarding employee overtime/payments/call ins etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of employee issues and positive relationship with team members in efforts to support a team-based environment.
  • Coordinates the interviewing, hiring, and selection of hourly employees and conduct orientations.
  • Perform new hire interviews with new team members still in the probationary period in order to identify any team members issues related to training, relationships with co-workers or team leaders, performance.
  • Maintain Employee training and discipline records. Ensure all appropriate orientation documentation is in each employees file.

Payroll Administration

  • Payroll preparation in accordance with specified deadlines and accruals (month end)
  • Record of Employment processing (as needed)
  • Agency weekly time sheet processing
  • Process all lay off and recall from layoff notices – compiling and issuing notices according to government and collective agreement standards
  • Manages payroll approval, oversight and employee payroll changes via Ulti-Pro, working closely with corporate payroll staff.   

Qualifications Required:

  • University or College degree in related field
  • 2 to 5 +years related experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Experience processing pre-payroll preferred (payroll processed offsite) CHRP designation or working towards preferred
  • Organized with an attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality
