Reporting to the Director Total Rewards and Employee Services, this position is responsible to promote a strategic vision of Benefits Excellence for the network.  This position is accountable for leading and directing oversight for benefits, pension, HRIS and employee services in respect to planning, policies and practices at Unity Health Toronto.  This role will provide leadership to a team on 18 individuals and for providing superior customer service to clients. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Designs, develops and implements a competitive Benefits Program that strategically  aligns with corporate objectives Accountable for the achievement of the specific objectives determined for Benefits and Pension through the development and implementation of policies and practices to ensure successful realization of corporate goals.  Investigates and analyzes actual and potential risks to the institution, relating to benefits and pension programs/practices and designs and implements appropriate remedies; Monitors the effectiveness of existing programs, policies, guidelines and procedures, recommending improvements which are consistent with market trends and Network objectives; Designs and manages the overall corporate benefit carrier review process, including changing benefit carries, consolidating existing coverages and changing policies; Establishes controls and administers corporate benefit contracts and policies including ongoing utilization review, trends and changes in the benefits industry, changes due to policy and/or collective bargaining; Provides high level subject matter expertise, insight and understanding on benefits related matters; Provides professional advice and guidance to the Director Total Rewards and Hospital management on existing and potential benefit issues relative to changes in business practices, legislation and market activity; Provides direction to benefit carriers and ensure accurate reporting and remittances to carrier Conducts audits to ensure accuracy of HR records and information. Provides leadership, focus and direction to a team of 18, identifying and recruiting resources, assigning clear accountabilities, overseeing staff and department evaluation, and ensuring continuous performance/quality improvement; Maintains responsibility for developing and executing human resources strategies for attracting, hiring, managing and developing team members. Reviews business systems related to total rewards and identifies enhancements that will create efficiencies and provide better data and reports to users; Manage the daily operations of the HR system; Support leaders across the organization in the development of reports to support them obtaining their objectives though LBI Reporting Maintain data integrity in the HRIS system by regularly analyzing data;

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Human Resources or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a diploma or certificate in Human Resources Management. Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) or equivalent preferred Five (5) years progressive management experience in Benefits in a unionized Healthcare setting; Demonstrates broad and comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, practices and policies with the ability to apply them in complex and/or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas required; Proficiency in dealing with technology, strategies and tactics required; Sound knowledge of integrated HRIS systems; Strong analytical and problem skills to resolve complex issues, identify trends/patterns, model alternatives, develop and recommend fact-based solutions required; Strong record demonstrating a high degree of judgment, integrity and diplomacy while protecting the confidentiality of information required; Proven ability to collaborate across functional lines of responsibility, Ability to work in an independent and self-directed manner while taking accountability for own actions required; Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned area and/or across multiple areas, in a timely and respectful manner required; Effective communicator with the ability to foster cooperation and work collaboratively within and across departments with a broad range of interest and a highly diverse work environment; Ability to engage and influence stakeholders, when necessary required.
