Royal Canadian Mint is hiring a Pay and Benefits Specialist who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment. Reporting to the Director, Total Compensation & HRMIS, the Pay and Benefits Specialist is responsible for the bi-weekly processing and transmission of the Mint payroll and responding to employee inquiries.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and process the pay and the benefits for a group of employees using the Mint’s integrated payroll system. 
  • Provide employee centric services in responding to pay and benefits enquiries.  The employee population includes a large group of unionized employees represented by three bargaining units.
  • Perform audits of payroll actions entered by a colleague and ensure integrity of employee data in the HRIS.
  • Actively participate in the year-end process and in responding to auditors requests for information.
  • Thoroughly perform administrative duties relating to the documentation, record keeping and filing of employee information.
  • Process bi-weekly and monthly reports and detailed statements for the remittance of monies to all agencies, suppliers and Federal Departments. 
  • Participate in special payroll projects with a focus to improve payroll procedures, processes and client service.

Requirements:

  • College diploma or certificate business administration or accounting or a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience processing payroll and administering benefits in a medium sized organization (more than 1,000 employees), and preferably in a unionized environment
  • Experienced knowledge of Canadian payroll processing, payroll best practices, and payroll legislation, particularly under the Canada Labour Code legislation
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification from the Canadian Payroll Association, an asset.
  • Solid knowledge and relevant experience working with a fully integrated HR/payroll/time and attendance system.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with sound mathematical skills to perform manual pay calculations and retroactive payments.
  • Ability to manipulate data from databases and consolidate data using spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel).
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively handle challenging situations, adjust to changing priorities and meet fixed deadlines.
  • Oral & written communication skills to clearly communicate information to employees and to prepare employee communications and letters to third parties.
  • Superior interpersonal skills to work effectively and collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
  • Client-service oriented.
  • Fluently bilingual – verbal skills in French and English is mandatory
