Job Overview

The Human Resources Business Partner is a generalist who is responsible for providing guidance and support to designated client groups and is an active member of a dedicated Human Resources team that brings life to the Human Resources Strategic Plan.

Role

In the role, you will…

  • Be a trusted partner to your client groups through sound guidance and support on business and people matters
  • Collaborate with business and Union partners to complete cross-functional tasks and resolve people matters that arise
  • Be certain of your interpretation and administration of the collective agreements
  • Represent Human Resources at Joint Labour Management (JLM) meetings with the goal to build even stronger working relationships with our Union partners
  • Conduct investigations thoroughly and efficiently to ensure due diligence and processes are followed consistently
  • Manage disability cases in client group to facilitate safe and early return to work
  • Facilitate the annual review process and support ongoing total rewards management
  • Work with leaders to develop effective organizational structures to drive success
  • Provide sound advice on workplace policies & procedures and share knowledge on applicable legislation including but not limited to the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
  • Maintain knowledge and be current with Human Resources trends and best practices
  • Support full cycle recruitment and take pride in the ability to find the right people who will contribute to our success
  • Be an advocate for employee health and wellness and ensure we meet our obligations within the OHSA and other legislation to ensure the safety of self and others
  • Be a team player who actively supports their colleagues
  • Build and utilize working relationships with internal business partners across the organization and external contacts
  • Collaborate with your peers and stakeholders to add to the collective innovative thinking that can drive new business ideas for FirstOntario
  • Be a change leader as FirstOntario continues to adapt to new and exciting ways of delivering business services
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Skills

Within your skills and qualifications, you will…

  • Have a sound working knowledge of Human Resources and Labour Relations  including a post-secondary diploma or degree in a Human Resources Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in a generalist capacity with a focus on labour relations
  • Have a minimum of  2 years’ experience working with a unionized workforce
  • Have the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation and be a member in good standing with the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA),
  • Be well-versed in HR and LR legislative requirements and have an interest in following field case law
  • Be detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Have experience working with cross-functional teams and unions to problem solve and influence positive change
  • Have experience coaching employees and management through complex and difficult situations
  • Enjoy a challenge in regards to complex HR issues and be resourceful in the way you find solutions
  • Able to multitask with many competing priorities
  • Have the flexibility to travel within our extensive branch network
  • Have the ability to work independently while supporting team members and organizational objectives
  • Be quick to respond to requests for service from all of your clients
  • Take accountability and inherently demonstrate a high level of integrity trustworthiness
  • Have superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be aware of and mitigate risk factors and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, legislation and FirstOntario policies and procedures
  • Be extremely comfortable using a computer particularly MS Office, and experience with an HRIS system (Ceridian Dayforce considered an asset)
