Reporting to the Director, HR Services, the Associate Director, Employee Health and Wellness (EHW), provides planning, development, implementation, evaluation, operational management and administration of Sheridan's Employee Health, Safety, Wellness and Workplace Abilities programs and services. The Employee Health and Wellness unit advocates, promotes, implements, and leads strategic, College-wide workplace well-being actions, shifting workplace practices, and drives initiatives that support Sheridan's Strategic Plan, the Campus Wellness Strategy and HR strategy. The Associate Director implements services and programs that supports a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant workplace where all people, places, and communities can flourish. The Associate Director will partner with other areas of the College, such as Human Resources, Student Affairs, Security, Facilities, Centre for Equity and Inclusion, and Union leaders to achieve its goals and collaborate on initiatives.
 

What You’ll be Doing

  • Providing leadership and oversight to the Employee Health and Well-being Team;
  • Maximizing staff performance through effective recruitment, training, mentoring/coaching, workflow/project planning, employee development and performance management;
  • Providing guidance and coaching to optimize staff performance and service to clients;
  • Providing senior leadership and direction on all employee health, safety, wellness and workplace abilities activities;
  • Maintaining, promoting and enhancing a safe, respectful and supportive workplace while ensuring compliance with relevant employment legislation, policies and procedures;
  • Partnering with Student Affairs, Security, Facilities, and the Centre for Equity and Inclusion to leverage Sheridan’s existing culture of safety and well-being;
  • Leading the achievement of innovative and integrated approaches to workplace well-being strategies and ensuring unit operations align with the strategic goals of the portfolio and Sheridan;
  • Leading the planning and facilitation of community engagement at Sheridan to develop insights and engagement in the evaluation of health and well-being approaches to ensure alignment and resonance with community members;
  • Working collaboratively as a key member of the HR Management Team to set unit priorities, culture, and align resources to build capacity to create and support the workplace of the future;
  • Overseeing the operational management of budgets and financial resources by planning, developing and monitoring fiscal resources are used efficiently;
  • Performing other related duties, as assigned.

You have solid technical knowledge of effective Health & Safety, Health & Wellness, and Occupational and non-occupational attendance management programs.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements: 

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Occupational Health and Safety, Health Promotion, Health Sciences or related field;
  • 7 years progressive experience with employee health, safety and well-being, including 3 years of experience in a leadership capacity (equivalency will be considered);
  • Leadership experience managing Occupational Health and Safety/Disability Management/Employee Well-being and functions in multiple industries and locations;
  • Project management experience, including experience using various tools and methodologies;
  • Solid business acumen; budget experience;
  • The following will be considered assets:
    • Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) 
    • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) 
    • Training or certificate in Industrial Hygiene
    • Member of a Safety Group or Association
    • Workplace Wellness Certificate
    • Workplace Investigation Training
    • Ergonomics/ Kinesiology knowledge training 
    • Adult Education certificate/ diploma

Campus Location: Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This position is currently working remotely.  Hybrid options will be available post-pandemic.
