Associate, Human Resources Business Partner

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Human Resources Business Partner, the Associate Human Resources Business Partner is a partner and trusted advisor to the business leaders to provide HR expertise, advice and counsel to enable the achievement of the Company’s vision and goals. The Associate Business Partner will create and maintain key partnerships with leaders, employees, union representatives and will broker services for the business within the other HR functional areas. The Associate HR Business Partner provides coaching, guidance and advice to business leaders on labour and employment related matters, interpretation of the collective agreement and HR policies and programs, such as workplace accommodation, attendance management, performance management, compensation, talent acquisition, change management, organization and job design best practices. The role is responsible support the development and implementation of business solutions, to address talent and organizational challenges, including supporting the talent review and process development.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders to effectively partner with the business to coach, guide and influence in labour relation matters, Collective Agreement interpretation, workplace accommodations, attendance and performance management and other HR policies and programs.
  • Partner with leaders to lead sensitive or complex issues such as workplace investigations related to harassment, performance and conduct. Provide applicable recommendations, prepare documentation and reports and supports the business in delivering the appropriate remedy/outcome of workplace investigations.
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Business Partner and leaders, support the development, implementation and delivery of human resource programs and initiatives by providing the tools, support, resources and training to empower business/clients in the implementation and maintenance of their People Strategy from an employee/labour relations perspective
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with leaders, peers, colleagues and union leaders. Ensures productive relationships with the union to identify and recommend resolutions of potential problems.
  • Participate and lead the administration of the grievance process and prepares documentation pertaining to collective agreement administration and mediation/arbitration

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in Human Resources, Business or related field or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • 3 years’ experience in performing full duties as an HR business partner/consultant or Associate Business Partner in a complex environment, or related experience
  • 3 years’ experience in a unionized environment
  • CHRL designation is considered an asset
  • Obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of HR concepts, policies and practices acquired through formal academic training and/or HR generalist capacity experience
  • Knowledge of Canada Labour Code, and Canadian Human Rights Act, Health and Safety and all other applicable acts and legislation and demonstrable track record to provide advice on their application
  • Effective coaching, mentoring facilitation, conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills with the ability to see impact of decisions at an enterprise level
  • Ability to establish relationships and act as the trusted advisor with and inclusive/collaborative style and the ability to influence and navigate upward, across and down
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, with the proven ability to manage and prioritize based on business demands and priorities
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in using all Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

The GTAA is a private not-for-profit corporation and a federally regulated employer. The Government of Canada has suspended mandatory vaccination requirement for federally regulated transportation sector workers. The GTAA has also suspended the application of the mandatory vaccination requirement in its COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. However, GTAA continues to monitor government and health developments relating to COVID -19 and may re-introduce the Vaccination and proof of Vaccination requirements in the Policy at any time.
