Overview

The People and Culture Advisor provides human resources advice and support to Holland Bloorview leadership and employees. The primary purpose of this role is to oversee the administration of the HR action form process for the hospital and to collaborate with People and Culture Business Partners (PCPB) to counsel leadership on human resources-related issues including but not limited to recruitment & selection, employee relations and labour relations. This position reports to the Manager, Talent, Acquisition, and Engagement.

Recruitment and HR Action Forms

  • Responsible for managing the HR action form process, including triaging action forms to the appropriate person, writing letters to reflect changes to employee’s status, and improving the process and intake form.
  • Applies a business partner approach when making recommendations to the business units with regards to changes in employees’ employment status (i.e. assist managers with offer recommendations, employment contracts, changes to benefits entitlements, etc.)
  • Updates and troubleshoots information pertaining to Applicant Tracking System (MyStaffingPro).
  • Partners with members of the Talent, Acquisition, and Engagement team to coordinate and/or lead various projects and initiatives.
  • Supports People and Culture Associate and PCBPs with developing and delivering training sessions such as new hire orientation and Unconscious Bias in Recruitment
  • Assists PCBPs with performing exit interviews and captures trends/themes for metrics reporting.
  • Prepares monthly recruitment reports to the Union
  • Oversees organization-wide recruitment campaigns focussed on creating employment opportunities for youth and those with disabilities, such as the Canada Summer Jobs program, Project SEARCH, paid student wage reimbursement programs, etc.
  • Support recruitment vendor relationships.

Business/HR Consulting

  • Handles general inquiries from employees as the first point of contact and provides guidance and coaching to employees accordingly.
  • In partnership with the PCBPs, provides business-related HR knowledge and advice concerning employment issues and human resources management issues; ensures appropriate controls are in place to minimize risk to Holland Bloorview.
  • Provides assistance and interpretation of Collective Agreement and supports in the preparation of the collective bargaining process
  • Using a business partnership approach, liaise with Payroll, Occupational Health, HR colleagues and employees on a variety of HR related issues and policy interpretations.

Process Ownership

  • Prepares routine and ad hoc recruitment reports, providing context and identifying trends in data (i.e., individual employee seniority reports, quarterly recruitment reporting, etc.).

Project Management/Coordination

  • Develops and delivers presentations to support various HR projects where required
  • Identifies opportunities for ongoing improvement to HR processes and policies, which may include researching and developing recommendations

Other Responsibilities

  • Act as mentor and offer peer coaching to People and Culture Associate.
  • Provides back-up support to the People and Culture Associate.
  • Supervises People and Culture summer students and participants of the Youth@Work or Project SEARCH programs.
  • Participates on process improvement committees and various organizational committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Competencies and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Human Resources or related field
  • CHRP or CHRL designation an asset
  • Three to five years progressive human resources generalist experience
  • Broad practical knowledge in all areas of Human Resources including recruitment, experience with employee relations, employment standards and law, employment equity, staffing, performance management, job design and evaluation practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and non-management staff in a professional and confident manner, including ability to influence business partners and ensure effective and positive interactions with team members, employees, management and vendors.
  • Demonstrates and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion and passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clear articulation and ensure positive interactions, including resolving conflicts.
  • Proven ability to work with and support the collaborative efforts of a team.
  • Superior customer relationship and customer orientation skills while balancing the needs of the client and with those of the People and Culture Department.
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing needs and circumstances, both internally and externally.
  • Business acumen/orientation (understand business needs to apply HR tools).
