A Day in the Life…

Reporting to the Director, HR Administration, the Pension Administrator supports the successful administration of the Brock University Pension Plan.  The Pension Administrator is responsible for administration of the Brock University Pension Plan, with a focus on administration of investments, contributions and pension payments. The incumbent ensures accurate and efficient management of pension data, provides required pension reporting and analytics, supports communication, promotion and coordinating of pension programs, supports committees and performs regular peer review. The incumbent also acts as a back up to the Senior Pension Administrator, meets with plan members, and acts as a liaison and resource to the investment consultant, actuary and fund managers.

As the Pension Administrator, you will:

  • Liaise with employees to support and execute plan members’ enrollment and exit process, including reviewing pension options, plan operation and administering beneficiary designation forms;
  • Support the work of the Pension Committee by identifying items for Pension Committee review, coordinate Committee meetings including working with service providers on meeting materials and presentations, distribution of materials to Committee members, preparing meeting minutes and drafting reports as required;
  • Develop and coordinate communications plan such as information sessions, pension web site, Plan Booklet, information pamphlet and Annual Pension Report;
  • Perform annual functions including review and reconciliation of pension adjustments, annual pensioner adjustment process and fiscal year end update/reconciliation process, including completion of annual pension statements;
  • Prepare and/or coordinate updates and filing of Statement of Investment Policies and Procedures (SIPP) and other required annual government filings;
  • Liaise with actuary for actuarial valuation to ensure member data integrity, liaise with Financial Services staff and auditors to complete the annual pension audit;
  • Reconcile monthly cash flow in accordance with the SIPP and internal procedures;
  • Ensure adherence to established pension governance, maintain understanding of and adherence to current pension legislation, university policy and collective agreement requirements;
  • Receive and respond to plan member inquiries and requests;
  • Act as backup to Sr. Pension Administrator.

What you need to succeed…

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. Business Administration);
  • A minimum of three years of experience in pension plan and/or benefit administration.

Preferred or Asset Skills…

  • Advanced knowledge of pension plan administration, including investment administration and trends;
  • Understanding of pension legislation, regulations, regulatory bodies, university policy and collective agreement requirements;
  • Working knowledge of financial processes including reconciliations, cash flow, rebates, etc.;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, with extensive knowledge of Excel; knowledge of word processing, HRIS, payroll systems, presentation software, database and internet search engines;
  • Knowledge of records management and privacy requirements and best practices.
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) certification or Pension Plan Administration Certificate (PPAC) are considered beneficial to have.

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade K: Salary Scale ($52,765 - $71,040)*

* The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
