Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the HR & Payroll Analyst will work closely with the Human Resources team to process full cycle payroll and year end remittances, administer benefits and pension plans while assisting with HR reporting and administration. The position requires an individual with payroll expertise who can be relied on to test and provide advice on complex payroll issues and/or changes in legal requirements. This position will also play a key role in compliance requirements, ensuring the integrity of payroll postings.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Payroll & Benefit Administration

  • Accurately processes full bi-weekly payroll cycle for over 250 employees in four (4) provinces in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with appropriate legislation and internal policies. This includes payroll entry, payroll reporting, and answering payroll related inquiries for all salaried and hourly employees within Canada.
  • Ensures payroll processing is compliant with internal audit requirements and federal and provincial legislation including Provincial Employment Standards legislation
  • Proactively conducts troubleshooting and analysis based on organizational and payroll related issues and provides thorough solutions and advice.
  • Responsible for drafting companywide communications related to payroll and benefits
  • Manages information in HR systems (ADP’s Workforce Now and People at Liberty)
  • Administration of pension & benefit plans (including retiree benefits)
  • Manages employee files (hard copy and future electronic employee files)
  • Responds to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll and benefits.
  • Manages the year-end process – including T2200 and government filings such as T4/T4A, Releve 1, EHT, Workers Compensation, and CNESST

Reporting

  • Creates and analyzes monthly and quarterly HR reports
  • Manages the compliance training process and follows up on non-completed provincially legislated training and training required by Corporate Compliance

Program Management

  • Assists with the Give and Serve with Liberty programs
  • Manages the annual Service Award recognition program
  • Oversees the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program to maintain correct time off balances in the HR system

HR Administration

  • Maintains and updates internal HR page on intranet site
  • Issues payments for external vendors for the HR department
  • Oversees HR records management at Iron Mountain (off storage facility)
  • Provides employment letters and verifications upon request
  • Provides assistance to HR team with day to day administrative work and projects
  • Other HR duties as assigned

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Professional payroll designation, College Diploma or Bachelor's degree (preferably in Human Resources or Business Administration) or equivalent experience required
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a payroll environment with experience with processing payroll in more than one province
  • Strong demonstrated understanding of payroll, benefits, taxation and applicable legislative requirements
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail while reviewing payroll while having the ability to work effectively with speed, accuracy and a sense of urgency to meet assigned timelines
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality and good judgment in high pressure, sensitive situations
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (both oral and written)
