CRITERA FOR AN INTERVIEW ARE AS FOLLOWS:
- A relevant degree from a recognized university in Industrial Relations, Human Resources Management/related field or equivalent proven experience
- Minimum of four (4) years labour relations or related experience with increased responsibility in the interpretation and administration of collective agreements including the handling of grievances in a diverse and unionized workforce
- Proven negotiation and collective bargaining experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills, along with effective written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, organizational and time management skills required
- Ability to prioritize varying workloads while working to meet deadlines with a proactive service orientation
- Extensive experience with research and survey methodology and concepts
- Effective communication through report writing and by way of group presentations
- Demonstrated ability to succeed in a team environment
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office products
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to and under the direction of the Executive Superintendent, Human Resources, Equity and Leadership, this position plays a vital role in providing management/ administrative support in the efficient operation of the Executive Superintendent’s Office. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Facilitate and coordinate the processes and procedures associated with shortlisting Principals and Vice Principals; coordinate related staffing processes and procedures between schools and the department as required
- Attend and record minutes/notes at all union-management meetings, staff allocation committee meetings, and negotiation meetings between management and the bargaining units (some negotiations take place outside C.E.C. including evening meetings)
- Keyboarding of various correspondence, reports, documents, etc. as required (including confidential and sensitive matters) for negotiations, conciliation, mediation etc.
- Facilitate effective and collaborative communication between internal departments, schools, Trustees, and external agencies such as Ontario College of Teachers, Ministry of Education, private and public sector offices by responding to and making enquiries independently, as required
- Respond to enquiries, emergent and/or sensitive issues from Board staff/external stakeholders and take appropriate action in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
- Provide administrative support related to sensitive, confidential, and labour relations matters
- Coordinate, schedule and confirm meetings, appointments and interviews for the Executive Superintendent and relative staff members, as required
- Collect, research, compile, analyze and prepare data/information for reports, with effective and proficient use of technology as required
- Provide supervision to assigned staff
- Assist with the preparation of various budgets (e.g. departmental; BLDS Expenditures, etc.)
- Maintain and process the staff development programs (e.g. Course Subsidy Program, Religious Education Additional Qualification Program, etc.)
- Provide general office administrative duties (e.g. create and track attendance records where appropriate; create and track all purchase orders and supplies utilizing Board’s financial management system; maintaining filing and follow-up system(s); establishing and maintaining various databases and spreadsheets; preparing cheque requisitions, etc.)
- Provide administrative support to the Superintendent’s Association as required
- Perform any other duties as assigned or required
