Renfrew Educational Services is a not-for-profit, registered charity operating as an independent school. We are an acknowledged leader in program development for children with special needs. For 49 years Renfrew has offered a wide range of programs and services to children from Calgary and surrounding areas.

We are currently accepting applications for a full-time permanent Associate Manager of Human Resources with the organizational succession plan of moving into the Manager of Human Resources role within 6 to 12 months.

The Associate Manager will participate in hands-on training focused on various aspects of a dynamic and unique not-for-profit organization with 400+ staff members. On the job training takes place onsite and is based at our Janice McTighe Centre (2050 21 St NE). The training will provide the Associate Manager with firsthand experience on Renfrew’s operations including human resource functions, system operation, recruiting and onboarding, inclusion & diversity, and all daily responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, collaboration and expertise on staff relations, performance management, pay, benefits and compensation and other areas as assigned.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on legal and legislative requirements regarding employment standards, human rights and privacy act, and provide timely advice as required.
  • Lead full cycle recruitment, onboarding and the termination process with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Develop, revise, and implement agency policies and procedures implementing best practices including compliance and legislation.
  • Provide support with disability management, group benefit claims and provide backup for worker’s compensation claims and management.
  • Adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions. Able to work with diverse personalities and styles.
  • Computer skills to produce and interpret reports, documents and presentations. Knowledge of HR and payroll management and software.

This position requires an advanced level of initiative and judgment in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and projects. Courtesy, respect and diplomacy are required in dealing with colleagues in every day working relationships.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in a related discipline is required.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation or in progress preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in progressively responsible human resource’s role.
  • Knowledge of payroll and benefits considered an asset.
  • Extensive HR knowledge across multiple HR functions.
  • Ability to work effectively in situations involving rapid change, shifting priorities, and/or simultaneous demands.
  • Sound decision making skills and proven ability to navigate complex situations.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to lead, coach and motivate colleagues. Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Office 365, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.).
  • A reliable vehicle, auto insurance with a minimum $2,000,000 liability and driver’s license is required.
  • A clear Criminal Record Check and Intervention Record Check (can be obtained upon hire).
