Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice and operationalize human resources and organizational culture workplans to support an overall people strategy that honours client focus and a culture of anti-oppression, equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Assist in the development and interpretation and administration of HR policies and practices;
  • Offer advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to legislative compliance, employee relations, team effectiveness, people leadership and employee development;
  • Oversee the Human Resources function and staff for the organization. Plan, develop and lead Human Resources Strategies, Programs and Services, and Training focusing on promoting a positive workplace culture in alignment with WellFort CHS Vision, Values and the organizational operational and strategic goals.
  • Coach staff and leadership on change management, conflict resolution, performance management, team-building, etc.
  • Manages the recruitment cycle: sourcing candidates, screening, interviews, reference checks, extending offers of employment, and orientation/onboarding.
  • Coordinates and executes all job evaluations and salary reviews for new positions and emerging practices
  • Plans and coordinates special events, team building exercises, and employee service award and recognition programs.
  • Supports leadership with the annual performance review process by training employees and supervisors, developing SMART goals, and monitoring completed reviews.
  • Manage, mediate and advise on staff relations matters, incident investigations, etc.
  • Recommends and implements team-building activities and opportunities that increase morale and productivity of the team
  • Participate in the return to work accommodation process and claims management.
  • Engage with employees to foster a culture of positive employee relations.
  • Stays at the forefront of human resources best practices and ensures WellFort is a leader in supporting its team and ensuring a healthy work environment.
  • Ensures WellFort complies with all governmental regulations pertaining to labour and human capital; revises policies and procedures to account for any changes in such regulations.
  • Drives employee engagement, leading change, and aligning people practices with WellFort’s vision, mission, values and the organizational operational and strategic goals.
  • Manage and develop student placements and volunteers programs. Liaises with leadership to develop placement opportunities for students and volunteers
  • Provides strategic planning related to payroll and all associated practices and partners closely with finance team executing payroll
  • Structure and negotiate employee benefit plans in consultation with the CEO and Director, Finance & Operations.
  • Act as plan administrator for group benefit plans and pension plans and sees escalated issues to completion.
  • Assist the CEO with HR reporting for the Board, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Organizational Planning & Operations

  • Establish department objectives, priorities and workplans which are aligned with WellFort’s organizational objectives.
  • Review, revise, refine and develop HR processes to effectively support the organizations current and evolving functional needs.
  • Utilizes information technology to collect and analyze data, presents data driven recommendations to the leadership for changes/improvements to programs.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements of accreditation.
  • Manage training requirements such as Health and Safety, WHIMIS, etc. and ensure requisite organizational compliance
  • Ensure professional licencing and insurance documentation in place for regulated staff.

Leadership

  • Collaborates with leadership team to develop and implement the organization’s plan for HR including recruitment, employee experience and retention
  • Ensure rigorous application and observance of policies, procedures and contractual obligations.
  • Leads, guides and supports direct reports, encourages growth and learning, and continuously ensures that resources are aligned with value for money.
  • Attracts, retains and develops direct reports; and manages staff separations of employment as required.
  • Facilitates team-based initiatives and promotes effective inter-professional functioning and operations with a shared care model

Qualifications

  • A university degree or college diploma in human resources management, or other related discipline.
  •  CHRL designation required
  • A minimum of five years’ experience working in a similar setting, preferably a not-for-profit organization.
  • Experience with change management and learning and culture change is an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant payroll and benefits legislation
  • Proficiency in interpreting policies, procedures, benefits and pension guidelines
  • Knowledge and familiarity with relevant legislation and practices.
  • Familiar with ADP Work Force Now payroll platform is an asset.
  • Good understanding of the full recruitment process
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including the ability to contribute to the creation of positive team and workplace dynamics
  • Demonstrated empathy, approachability and an understanding of others
  • Successful experience working with a diverse population
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in planning, evaluation and quality monitoring systems.
  • Excellent decision-making, critical thinking, problem-solving, conflict management, interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Self-directed with strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • A high degree of emotional intelligence/empathy; Commitment to continuous learning, quality improvement and innovation.
  • Excellent written communication and oral skills that meet the needs of the individual and/or community at the appropriate literacy level.
  • Experience working with confidential and time sensitive documents and information.
  • Experience working in a value based non-profit or social services organization.
  • Experience or training in Change Management is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently in an interdisciplinary team environment in which the skills and responsibilities of each team member are recognized and respected. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of computers and various computer software applications, such as ADP-Workforce Now.
  • Ability to speak languages relevant to the residents of the organization’s community is an asset.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENT

The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on the condition of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination. Fully vaccinated is defined as having received the completed series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine, as recommended by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and having received the final dose at least 14 days before your employment start date.

Acceptable proof is a Ministry of Health Dose Administration Receipt (or such other proof of vaccination that the Province of Ontario sanctions).
