Human Resources Advisor (HRA)


BONUS: Upon hire, you shall receive a one-time signing bonus of $500 on the first pay date after your employment commences and should you continue your employment with the organization for another six months, you will be provided another lump sum amount of $500.

Under the leadership of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Advisor complies with all applicable legislation and manages the day-to-day functions of the HR Department including employee relations, investigations, health and safety, benefits & pension management, training and development and coaching. The HR Advisor also manages some projects related to the HRIS including system updates and training employees.

YOUR ROLE

  • Provides day-to-day HR guidance, support and interpretation of existing HR policies, procedures and programs and act as a first point of contact in employee relation matters.
  • Handles escalated employee relations concerns, complaints and incidents. Prepares formal communication to employees, consulting legal where appropriate.
  • Conducts employee investigations where appropriate, focusing on fairness and timely resolution of complaints and completing investigation reports in a timely manner.
  • Provides coaching, training and facilitation to managers and employees, both individually and in groups. Provides guidance on matters pertaining to effective leadership, employee relations, and effective conflict resolution.
  • Supports the termination process including, reviewing performance documentation, preparing recommendations, assessing legal risk, etc.
  • Provides Human Resources knowledge and advises management and employees on employment law and practices, employee relations, health and safety, which operate within the policies and values of the organization.
  • Assists in the coordination of performance appraisals, including all related reports.
  • Coordinates and supports strategic human resources initiatives; including change initiatives, development and introduction of guidelines and policies that are in compliance with employment legislation, existing human resources strategies and best practices.
  • Mitigates organization’s legal risks in compliance with the Employment Standards Act, the Human Rights Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. Consults legal where appropriate.
  • In collaboration with the communications department, prepares internal communication related to HR initiatives/programs.
  • Acts as a representative for the organization for external HR committees, projects, etc.
  • Collaborates with the HR Coordinator to analyze WSIB/LOA reports for accuracy, trends and improvement in processes.
  • Manages some projects related to the HRIS including updates, system enhancements and training employees.
  • Acts as a back-up to HR Coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Three to four years’ experience in a HR generalist position.
  • CHRP designation required/Working towards CHRL
  • Not for profit experience is considered an asset
  • Broad understanding of the Employment Standards Act (Ontario).
  • Demonstrated high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and analytic skills.
  • Proven ability to work within a team.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Bilingual in French-English is an asset.
