Who You Are:

You’re an experienced Human Resources (HR) leader whose knowledge, expertise, and passion drive the strategy and daily operations of HR activities in support of Ivey’s overall vision and goals. You thrive in a dynamic and driven environment, overseeing a team that is accountable for everything from HR strategy development and execution, talent acquisition, retention and engagement, compensation and benefits, employee/labour relations, and health & safety. You work closely with the Senior Leadership team and act as a trusted consultant and strategic partner to leaders across the school. You’re adept at building genuine relationships with staff, always seeking ways to enhance and improve satisfaction and retention by recommending changes in policies, procedures and practices which directly influence the work environment and engagement of employees. You value diversity and inclusion and have demonstrated interest in advancing institutional equity goals.

What You’ll Do: 

Strategic Leadership, Planning and Execution of HR strategies 

  • Determine the direction and priorities of HR within the overall context of Ivey, taking into consideration alignment with Western University.
  • Determine departmental budget and allocation of funds to support strategic priorities.
  • Develop and disseminate HR related communications to all staff in the organization.
  • Select external vendors such as executive search firms, consultants, benefits providers, contractors with specialized expertise and other vendors for human resources related requirements.
  • Elicit feedback on HR programs and offerings through staff focus groups, pulse surveys, meetings, etc.; seek consensus on new HR initiatives through group meetings with department leaders and the management committee.
  • Lead annual salary increase planning process and incentive payouts for professional contract staff, collaborating with CAO, Finance, leaders and Central HR.
  • Work closely with the Director, Culture & Inclusion on supporting and executing initiatives associated with equity, diversity, and inclusion for staff.

Leadership of HR team and functions 

  • Develop, coach, train and mentor a team of human resources professionals to deliver a high level of excellence and communications best practices.
  • Provide guidance on escalated situations.
  • Ensure high level of service and quality in the delivery of HR products and services to the organization.

Talent Acquisition

  • Consult on and determine/approve offers of employment, including appropriate salary levels and latitude of negotiations for contracts for contract offers within the context of Ivey.
  • Oversee the development, creation, and implementation of employment branding and recruitment strategies aligned with the strategic priorities of the school, in collaboration with the Talent Acquisition Manager.
  • Provide counsel to leaders on talent retention and development, encouraging and supporting employee development through formal training and promotional opportunities within the organization.

Advisor to leadership on HR related matters 

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with leaders and staff to understand their business requirements in order to effectively assist them with their human resources needs.
  • Promote practices and policies contributing to an environment which supports and rewards employees and generates a high-performance culture aligned with Ivey’s strategic goals and values.
  • Support leaders/staff by consulting and advising on all employee relations matters and complaints, interpreting and applying applicable provincial legislation, internal policies, best practices, and Ivey’s values.
  • Provides essential support to leaders on the termination of staff; apply knowledge and skill to ensure termination actions are carried out professionally and competently while adequately supporting the affected employee.
      

What You Have: 

Education and Experience: 

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business; ideally combined with a Human Resources designation.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive human resources management experience as a generalist in a knowledge industry.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Experience working in organizational environments with highly educated professional staff as well as with unionized staff; working knowledge of the application of collective agreements, grievance and arbitration procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation, employment law, Occupational Health and Safety Act, relevant Employment Equity law.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of HR best practices, trends and developments; total compensation best practices and trends for professional staff.
  • Specialized knowledge and a high level of judgement and decision making is required in staffing and recruitment, job evaluation, pay and benefit administration, labour relations, dispute resolution and, legal and risk mitigations strategies, and negotiation techniques.
  • Experience with recruitment and selection, performance management programs and best practices.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with senior administrators, leaders and staff in a high-performing environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills along with proven ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and discretion; coach employees and leaders through difficult situations, facilitate conflict resolution, influence others in a positive manner, successfully promote sound human resources management programs and practices.
  • Effective leadership ability to oversee staff and a strong commitment to providing quality service in a high performing environment.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strick adherence to confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with difficult and sensitive situations.
  • Experience in a unionized environment including interpretation of collective agreements.
  • Planning and project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • A strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Innovative thinker and problem solver; the ability to see how all the pieces fit together and contribute to the achievement of broader institutional objectives.

Position Type:

Full-time (35/hours a week) 3-year renewable contract.

Hiring Range

Based on the salary band for this role, candidates can expect to be offered a starting salary in the range of $100,900-$134,500. When determining salary, Ivey Business School considers the external market, candidate qualifications, as well as internal equity. Once in the role, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through the range and beyond the hiring range of the band, through annual increases.
