HR Generalist / Business Partner

JOB SUMMARY

This position is accountable for assisting in delivering human resources support for a manufacturing facility. Hands-on HR position to support the manufacturing plant through partnering and driving the implementation of HR processes and initiatives throughout the plant promoting a results oriented and performance driven culture. Also interfaces with plant manufacturing team on critical HR initiatives. This position will assist in the administration and coordination of plant labor relations, performance management affirmative action / EEO, employee relations and community relations. 

This position executes initiatives regarding employment / recruiting and staffing, onboarding, benefits administration, records administration, training, wage and salary administration.​

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Plan and execute talent management processes including: workforce planning, recruiting & staffing, performance management, employee development, training and succession planning in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.  

• Assist HR Manager for Manufacturing organizational effectiveness (MOE) and organizational health.

• Manage the administrative activities related to the HR function (absenteeism programs, maintain employee records, HRIS, schedule changes, probationary period, vacations, etc.).

• Maintain and prepare the annual files for governmental reports.

• Produce operations schedules and overtime needs by working closely with operations team.

• Administer employee benefit, compensation programs, pension plan and other HR company initiatives as required.

• Manage disability insurance program (LTD and STD) and provide support to employees.

• Providing support to retirees for questions regarding insurance, pensions, other benefits…

• Work closely with the Paymaster to ensure accurate employee payments and addresses issues.

• Analyses, develops, evaluates and implements various processes, programs, projects, tools, strategies, etc. regarding HR practices, labor or others to ensure process optimization, cost saving for best in class solutions for contemporary HR issues.

• Work closely with corporate support departments to review process and practices and recommend changes.

• Prepare and analyze performance indicators (dashboard) and work in an advisory role with departments to identify required improvement initiatives.

• Administer the application of the collective agreement and provide counsel/support on the application of labor relations, internal policies and programs throughout the manufacturing plant. Prepare and administrate grievance and arbitrations documents. 

• Participate in labor and employee relations meeting and activities that drive productivity and efficiency.

• Assist during the collective agreement negotiations process: Preparation of documents, meetings with union committee, contingency planning and writing of the collective agreement. 

• Assist in driving a high level of employee engagement.

• Be a positive and proactive company and employee advocate.

• Participate in audits.

• Translate and review documentation. 

• Produce communications to employees. Assist in developinginitiatives to increase the level of communication and engagement. 

• Assist Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to improve safety performance and reduce workers compensation costs.

• Partner with Plant HR Manager in the various mandates and files

• Change agent in O-I's new management structure and mission, influencing human resources management practices and collaborating in setting directions and priorities.

SCOPE AND IMPACT

This position is developmental in nature while supporting all aspects of HR processes and initiatives throughout the plant. The person must function equally well in both an office and plant environment.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• experience with success factors and or verifiable payroll preferred

• Completion of a human resources program, post secondary 

• 5-10 years of professional experience in Human Resources in a technological or manufacturing environment with modern HR processes. 

• CHRP or CHRL desirable 

• Experience within production, manufacturing, distribution/warehouse environments preferred 

• Broad knowledge of HR related programs including but notlimited to employee engagement, recruitment / hiring, performance management, terminations, attendance management, WSIB & RTW. 

• A 'hands on' interest in HR activities while being equally effective executing HR programs directly or coaching managers to implement HR related strategies

• Computer proficient using MS Office especially Excel, Word, and Outlook; familiar with a payroll systems, HRIS and/or ATS 

• Strategic and critical thinker with business acumen; analytical and project management skills

• Superior interpersonal and communication skills including listening to both employees and management

• Demonstrated mediation and conflict resolution skills

• Outstanding time management, organizational and planning skills with a focus on accuracy and details

This position reports to the Plant HR Manager.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require occasional travel within North America.
