In your role of the Human Resources Management Partner you will be navigating contentious issues, will be embracing complexity and will be taking great satisfaction in delivering results. You are able to accept challenges and to push the bounds of how we think so as to nurture a healthy learning environment. You have excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution skills. You have exceptional judgement and acuity; strong ability to manage sensitive issues and to communicate on such matters thoughtfully and appropriately. Also you have an ability to build consensus and influence decision makers and to establish positive relationships and gaining credibility with assigned client group. You have coaching, counselling and facilitation skills needed to lead managers/directors in developing effective people practices. You are self-motivated to manage portfolio work independently and to contribute on projects/issues as part of the broader HR team. You adept at prioritizing issues and workloads, and effectively managing client expectations and have knowledge and understanding of Workforce Planning and HR metrics. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers , learners, patients and families.

On a practical level, you will:

•Effective administration, interpretation and application of three collective agreements and Hospital policies, guidelines and directives

•Grievance and dispute resolution management, including representing the Hospital at mediations and partnering with legal counsel on matters proceeding to arbitration

• Deliver sound, responsible guidance on matters involving workplace violence, workplace discrimination and harassment, return-to-work/modified work by identifying and cooperating with HR partners (i.e. Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness)

• Lead, participate and support union-management committees and meetings

• Engaged and active participation as part of the client consultancy team (along with representatives from both finance and decision support units) to inform our client’s decision-making on matters involving operational planning, annual budgeting and risk mitigation

• Brokering additional HR offerings within the People Services division by establishing strong working relationships with colleagues responsible for recruitment, job evaluation, total compensation, talent and performance management, diversity, volunteer services and organizational development

• Collaborate with partners both within and outside of Human Resources (other Service Delivery Teams; Organizational Development; Professional Practice) to appropriately collect and consider all information related to matters being pursued, and to ensure provision of advice/direction is consistent and well-supported

• Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned client group and key stakeholders (including union leaders) to assist with meeting the client’s people needs in a proactive manner

• Ensure effective and efficient application of standards in relation to daily HR transactions • Participate in the development and implementation of Human Resource policies, procedures and programs

• Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to all members of the HR team

• Participate in the overall planning, development and implementation of the NYG People Plan to ensure the Hospital is able to meet its organizational goals

Qualifications
•Undergraduate degree in Business and/or Human Resource Management; post-graduate degree (i.e. M.I.R.) preferred

• Minimum five (5) years’ experience as a labour relations professional in a unionized workplace, specifically in the delivery of operational labour relations support to front-line managers and senior leaders

• Proven track record leading a wide range of issues and the management of grievances and disputes to support organizational objectives

• Lead or participating member of labour-management committees and forums

• Experience as lead or support on initiatives related to corporate labour relations strategy or planning

• Healthcare or broader public sector experience in human resources preferred • Solid understanding of HR legislation (e.g. Employment Standards, Human Rights, Occupational Health & Safety, privacy, pay equity etc.)

• A combination of education and related work experience could be considered as an acceptable equivalent.

• Bilingualism in French/English an asset
