Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Advisor is responsible for providing advice and consultation on human resources matters, such as recruitment, benefits, compensation, collective agreement interpretation, conflict resolution and general HR administration. Responsible coordinating corporate recruitment initiatives, strategic projects and providing solutions to departments on their human resources needs. Conducts analysis and provides recommendations with respect to the recruitment process, benefits administration, job descriptions and strategic business plans.

Qualifications and experience:

  • University Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or suitable equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Human Resources, including 3 years’ experience in recruitment and/or administering a benefits program. Work experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation and/or Canadian Benefits Professional designation.
  • Knowledge of relevant employment legislation, acts and regulations such as the Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in all aspects of the full cycle recruitment process and talent acquisition principles.
  • Ability to build rapport and effective working relationships with clients, providing sound HR advice. Exceptional customer service skills with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and Applicant Tracking Systems, with experience in reporting, statistical analysis and identifying trends.
  • Knowledge of the City’s mission, vision and values as well as the core and leadership competencies and relevant departmental functional competencies.
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours, as required.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations, as required.
