Permanent, full-time opportunity – Guelph, ON
A great opportunity to join the University of Guelph and expand your Human Resources generalist experience and skills by supporting a diverse portfolio of clients comprised of research, academic and operational units and multiple employee groups (unionized/non-union).
Working among a collaborative team of Consultants, and reporting to the Director, Human Resources (Staff Relations), you will provide consultancy service to management and staff in all areas of human resources, including staff relations, recruitment and outreach, learning and development, and performance management.
As an HR Consultant, you will identify and facilitate the resolution of specific HR issues to provide a value-added service, ensure your own continuing professional development and the development of others, as well as identify and recommend changes to current systems and procedures to ensure high standards. Recognized as a persuasive champion of best practices, you will develop and maintain professional working relationships with both internal and external clients, including various employee groups and bargaining units, to ensure the provision of a quality, cost-effective service.
QUALIFICATIONS
To fulfill the role of Human Resources Consultant (Staff Relations), you must be a self-starter with customer relationship skills, and a profile that includes:
- A post-secondary degree in a related field and five+ years of progressive generalist experience in Human Resources, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Extensive knowledge of employment legislation and current employment best practices; Demonstrated experience working in a multi-union environment, preferably in the public or broader public sector; Experience working in a consultative model of providing human resource services and the ability to produce quality results; Strong oral and written communication and facilitation skills; Excellent customer relationship skills along with a demonstrated ability to influence; Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities;
- Skills as a team player with the ability to work independently.
ASSETS:
- Change management skills or training; The completion of, or working towards, a CHRP or CHRL designation.
