eCampusOntario

eCampusOntario is a provincially-funded non-profit organization that leads a consortium of the province’s 53 publicly-funded colleges, universities and indigenous institutes to develop and test online learning tools to advance the use of education technology and digital learning environments. Officially registered as the Ontario Online Learning Consortium (OOLC) and referred to as eCampusOntario we: 

  • Support the development and delivery of quality online learning experiences across all of Ontario.  Lead in research, development and sharing of exemplary practices in online and other forms of technology-enabled learning.  Support member institutions in fostering innovation, collaboration, and excellence on behalf of Ontario students, faculty and stakeholders.  Contribute to the evolution of teaching and learning by responding to emerging technology and the development of state-of-the art online learning.

 

Business Partner, People and Culture  

Focus Areas:  Occupational Health, Safety, Wellness and General People and Culture/Human Resources

Work Model:  Primarily in-person in Toronto, Ontario (number of days negotiable, preferably 4 – 5 days per week initially)

 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, People and Culture, the Business Partner, People and Culture will support eCampusOntario with fulfilling its essential people and culture functions with a focus towards occupational health, safety, wellness and general People and Culture/HR, embedding equity, decolonization, diversity and inclusion (EDDI) practices in all aspects of their work.  

The position will guide and coach all levels of people leaders within each organizational function, assess operational needs, plan, develop and implement people strategies and practices, providing consultative support to business priorities and drive growth and value. Leverage cross-functional relationships to foster an integrated and collaborative approach to create and deliver people solutions.

 

Accountabilities, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness
    • Develop, implement and administer policies, procedures and practices
    • Supports the in-person and hybrid work model with a focus on overall wellness Introduce and administer an ergonomics program
    • Ensure safety inspections are being completed and incidents are investigated
    • Ensures training records are maintained per regulatory requirements
  • HRMS/HRIS administration and data management
    • Daily administration of employee files Reporting Analytics
  • Employee relations
    • Responding to daily management and employee inquiries
  • Employee engagement
    • Supporting rewards and recognition
    • Supporting hybrid-work environment
  • Talent acquisition
    • Full cycle talent acquisition including: requisition, job posting and sourcing
    • Consult and advise people leaders on suitable advertising venues, including leveraging social media to tap into passive candidate pool, as appropriate
    • Leverage internal succession planning and external talent pipelines Participate in People and Culture Talent Acquisition initiatives and projects Orientation, and probationary/progress review process support
    • Support the annual internship program across all business units
  • Talent management process
    • Support annual performance review cycle
    • Provide guidance and counseling related to performance improvement plans
    • Supporting ongoing projects related to change management
  • Equity, Decolonization, Diversity and Inclusion (EDDI) initiatives
    • Supporting ongoing programs, and development of new ones
  • Employee training, organizational and professional development
    • Liaise with vendors and reconciliation of professional development records
  • Total rewards program management
    • Supporting hiring managers with drafting and banding job descriptions
    • Maintenance of job evaluation records Liaising with internal departments, i.e. Finance and Payroll
    • Administration and coordination with external vendors and benefit providers
  • Other day to day people and culture related duties and projects, as assigned

 

Education, Professional Designations and Development

  • Education
    • Post-secondary degree in related field, or combination of experience and education
  • Specialized knowledge
    • Experience in hybrid work environments, start-ups, post-secondary education, non-profit an asset
    • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of federal, provincial and other occupational health and safety regulations and legislation
  • Skills
    • The ability to organize the workload and manage multiple tasks effectively
    • A team player who can lead by example and influence, including the ability to train and coach managers
    • Expert in MS365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint); outstanding communications and interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy, ability to handle confidential data, excellent organization and time management skills; cloud-based HRMS/HRIS and superior knowledge of occupational health, safety and wellness programs and strategies
    • Bilingual in French and English, preferred
    • Demonstrated commitment and understanding equity, decolonization, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse peoples
  • Professional Certification
    • CHRP, CHRL preferred Occupational health and safety related certifications/designations preferred
  • Experience
    • Five (5) years’ progressive experience in all areas of Human Resources including at least two (2) years specialization in the areas of occupational health, safety and wellness in Ontario, preferably at the Business Partner level

Hybrid Work Model

This position is based out of the eCampusOntario office in downtown Toronto, where our hybrid work model includes both in-person and remote work opportunities. This position in particular will have regular, in-person presence at our office (approximately 4 – 5 days a week initially).
