About the Position:
This is a temporary full-time (approximately 18-20 months) Administration role, reporting to the Manager Human Resources, working 35 hours per week.

The Human Resources Consultant – Labour and Employee Relations is to provide a full range of proactive and comprehensive Human Resources consultancy, advisory and coaching services to leadership as well as assisting staff as required. Maintains all reporting and data related to labour requirements, employee data tracking such as performance reviews, employee lists, seniority lists, grievance tracking etc.

The incumbent will perform a generalist role working in conjunction with the Manager Human Resources to support Leadership and Employees of the College. The HR Consultant will participate in the implementation and administration of sound human resources practices for full-time and part-time employees of the College, as it relates to Labour Relations, HR Policies and Procedures and Performance Management. The HR Consultant will assist with investigations, recruitment and selection, job evaluation, onboarding, and other human resources core functions, in a manner that is consistent with employment standards, legislation and guidelines.

The incumbent develops, fosters and maintains professional relationships with Leadership, Employees, Unions and external partners.

Specific Accountabilities:
•Working under the Supervision and direction of the Manager Human Resources. Will also work under the direction of the Human Resources Director in matters related to Academic Labour Relations.
•Ensures the College is compliant with contractual and legislative requirements such as the College Collective Bargaining Act, Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Pay Equity Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and Collective Agreements, through the development of appropriate HR policies, resources and tools; and their appropriate implementation and interpretation.
•Attends Faculty and Support Staff Labour Management meetings and other identified meetings. Works with the HR Manager and Director on action items, meeting minutes and responses required.
•Liaises with union representatives as the College representative to investigate and informally resolve employee relations issues.
•Compiles information for reports required by the collective agreements, the College Employer Council, College Leadership, and/or the government.
•Processes other than full time employment contracts through the HR system
•Works with Academic Support Coordinators in the determination of Salary Calculations

Qualifications:
•A three-year Degree/diploma or equivalent in such disciplines as Human Resources Management/Labour Relations, Business with Human Resources/Labour Relations or a related field is required at the point of hire into this position.
•A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP, CHRL) designation is preferred.
•A minimum of five years of progressive generalist HR experience in a diverse unionized and non-unionized environment.
•Direct experience working with Unions in relation to Grievances, investigations, conflict resolution, Labour Management meetings.
•Experienced with Data Management, reports, memos and communications to internal and external partners.
