WORK ILLUSTRATION:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Workforce and Staffing Programs, the Manager, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be responsible for leading the planning, delivery, implementation, and assessment of strategic diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives in alignment with divisional human resources and safety, and organizational strategies. The incumbent will provide subject matter expertise in the review, execution and engagement/communication of DE&I programming.  S/he will operate in the capacity of a change agent within the organization to enhance employee engagement, productivity and innovation and works as a partner by advising on organizational activities and practices to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace that is reflective of the community we serve.  Furthermore, s/he will build and foster external relationships to align the organization’s initiatives to DEI best practices and outcomes in the advancement of environment, social and governance (ESG) goals.

The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

Toronto Hydro has implemented a mandatory vaccination requirement for all its employees. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:      

  • Leads the end-to-end creation and implementation of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs, best practices, initiatives and processes that demonstrate the organization’s commitment to a safe, equitable, and inclusive work environment and organizational culture.
  • Responsible for coordinating and guiding all DEI efforts to review, evaluate, define, understand, assess, foster, and identify opportunities and strategies to address systemic barriers to inclusion and embed DEI in all facets of business, employee and stakeholder experiences.     
  • Supports departmental, divisional and corporate performance reporting as it relates to DEI measures and outcomes
  • Establishes key partnerships and consults with internal and external stakeholders to set direction for program development and increase awareness and engagement of employees.
  • Leverages understanding of inclusive practices and organizational values to support advancements to talent acquisition, talent management/development, engagement, and retention practices.
  • Reviews existing processes, policies, systems, tool to increase DEI across the organization. Conducts best practice research and benchmarking to provide recommendations and enhancements.
  • Keeps up to date with policy developments related to employee DEI matters and stays abreast of emerging trends and apply that to relevant programs aligned to business needs.
  • Participates in networking groups to keep current with issues and best practices. 
  • Manages the day-to-day DEI activities performed by a small internal team and external subject matter experts/vendors. Manages safety, attendance, performance and training and development.

REQUIREMENTS:       

  • Undergraduate degree in business, human resources or related field of study
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in diversity, equity, inclusion and demonstrated experience in leading transformational change
  • Minimum five (5) experience in leadership, project and change management and policy/program development within a human resources department
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP/CHRL) preferred
  • Experience across human resources functions (e.g. talent acquisition and management, compensation and benefits, organizational effectiveness, performance management) would be an asset
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining trusting relationship with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and synthesize information and develop recommendations for a wide range of organizational initiatives
  • Previous experience in supporting organizational people & culture initiatives or working with under-represented groups is preferred
  • Demonstrates insight into the organization's risks and opportunities within a DEI framework
  • Strong presentation, facilitation and active listening skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with a high attention to detail
  • Change management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Embrace continuous improvement by proposing new and/or better ways of doing things
  • Excellent technical ability (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)                                            

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
