You are a people-focused Manager, passionate about championing the advancement of an employee-focused, collaborative, and engaging workforce culture in this union and non-union Not-for-Profit environment. You are also results-focused, driving operational efficiency through value-added HR processes and programs. You will lead the HR function through the development and maintenance of human resources frameworks, policies, and procedures for the organization while providing the hands-on delivery of all HR related programs.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will work closely with Leaders and Managers in providing thoughtful and intentional employee and labour relations. You will deliver frontline guidance and counsel in all areas of HR, handling various concerns to resolve issues.

Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Leadership Team, recommend, develop, and implement a strategic and operational people plan which aligns with the organization’s objectives and ensure achievement of HR operating plans and budgets.
- Lead day-to-day employee and labour relations including the administration, interpretation and application of the collective agreement, company policies, programs and the handling of internal investigations, complaints/disputes and grievances, as well as the collective bargaining process on behalf of organization. This includes building and maintaining positive working relationships with union stewards and representatives.

- Provide best practice guidance to People Managers and oversee the consistent delivery of HR services to ensure equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion are maintained.
- Collaborate and implement organizational efficiencies such as organizational design, business control systems and processes, and HR process improvement.
- Lead and implement HR programs and policies (professional development, team effectiveness, performance management, new hire onboarding/orientation, ongoing training, retention).
- Manage all HR policies including ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement to ensure relevance, accuracy, and compliance.
- Lead the recruitment of talent including developing job descriptions, postings, conducting interviews and liaising with hiring managers, ensuring equitable, diverse and inclusive assessment practices. Oversee health and safety programs and processes to ensure compliance.
- Lead and oversee compensation strategy, including benefits administration, payroll administration, and annual compensation reviews. Lead and coach HR department employees.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and collaborator with the leadership team to build, foster and model values, culture and leadership philosophy; ensure this is embedded in all actions, decision making and communications throughout the organization.
- Stay abreast of best practices in people management and monitor and analyze related legislative, demographic, social and workforce trends and emerging issues, and provide input to the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Related education and a Certified Human Resource Leader or Partner (CHRL/CHRP) designation.
- 5+ years of relevant HR management experience in a generalist capacity.
- Strong Labour Relations experience a must.
- Experience in the healthcare sector and a unionized environment preferred.
- Knowledge of not-for-profit best business practices an asset.
- Expert knowledge of employment, labour and health and safety legislation.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite and the aptitude to learn new technology.
- Excellent organizational skills, and ability to prioritize duties and multi-task within a fast-paced environment.
- A warm, dynamic, and engaging interpersonal style, with a strong ability to develop, grow and nurture professional, productive working relationships with all levels within the organization.
- Ability to identify organizational needs and to conceptualize, initiate, coordinate, and manage the implementation of solutions in response to the needs.
- Self-starter, a builder and thought leader with strong initiative, creative ideas, enthusiasm, and focus.
- Desire to work effectively with and value people of all abilities and backgrounds. Emotional maturity, good judgment, professionalism, respect for confidentiality.
