JOB PURPOSE

 

The Interim Director of Human Resources is responsible for the strategic development and oversight of the personnel management systems, including the retention of Human Resources Information System data and the policies and practices of Cornerstone. They take the lead on strategic human resources initiatives across the organization. They provide support and guidance to Cornerstone’s Senior Managers in the selection, supervision, training support, discipline, and evaluation of program employees. They take leadership in preparations for Collective Bargaining and in implementation of Collective Agreements. They act as an advisory chair on the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Chair the Policy Review Committee, and take a leadership role in the Joint Health and Safety and Labour Management Committees. They are responsible for promotion of a positive and safe workplace that reflects Cornerstone’s commitment to fair and just employment practices. The Director of Human Resources supervises the Volunteer Coordinator, the Human Resources Coordinator and the Human Resources Generalist.

KEY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Recruitment & Selection

  • Oversee and participate in recruitment and selection process to ensure quality hires in compliance with relevant legislation, contractual obligations, and applicable policies. Provide strategic support and advice to the Management team throughout recruitment and selection process

 Onboarding & Retention

  • Oversee the onboarding strategy and development of onboarding materials
  • Is accountable for ensuring the preparation and collection of all documentation (ie. offer letters, background checks) is compliant with all relevant legislation, contractual obligations, and applicable policies
  • Leads retention strategy and offers a risk management lens to the attraction and retention of quality hires 

Labour Relations

  • Oversee and participate in the research and drafting of Collective Agreements and communications regarding staff inquiries or issues and liaise with legal counsel when required
  • Oversee grievances and their resolution and advise management on disciplinary situations
  • Participate in Labour Management meetings and other labour matters with union reps and work with representatives and executives to maintain good relationships

Personnel and Interpersonal Responsibilities

  • Oversee the roles and responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator, the Human Resources Generalist, the Human Resources Coordinator and other applicable roles Review employee compliance with training and relevant policy from emerging legislation Take the lead on succession planning and change management strategy Collaborate with management team to identify staff training needs and find or develop relevant resources to match those needs Ensure that terminations and layoffs meet legislative and collective agreement requirements, collaborating with the Executive Director, managers, and legal counsel when necessary

Policies & Procedures

  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and improve the organization’s policies, procedures, and metrics, ensuring they’re consistently aligned with all applicable requirements and laws

Occupational Health & Safety

  • Actively participate in health and safety initiatives, taking a lead role in safety optimization
  • Administration
  • Keep track of records, reports, and other employee documentation, ensuring all files are kept up to date and confidential

Perform other duties related to the position as assigned  

REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts with Honours required Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resources or a combination of education and relevant experience, required CHRP designation or CHRP designation in progress 2 years of experience in a Senior Human Resources Management role, required 5-7 years of experience in Human Resources, required At least 2 years of supervisory experience, required Experience working in a non-profit, healthcare, housing or long-term care organization is considered an asset Experience working in a unionized environment, required Experience with policy development, succession planning and change management required
  • Experience working with and maintaining data in Ceridian Dayforce or an equivalent HRIS system  
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset Ability to travel within the city limits required
