Director of Human Resources

Founded in 1954, Community Living Central York (CLCY), is a not-for-profit charitable organization that serves the Central area of York Region. The organization provides support and services to approximately 450 adults who have a developmental disability. We are a progressive, dynamic and highly motivated team looking for a like-minded Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the Executive team, the Director of Human Resources oversees and champions organizational planning, labor relations, recruitment and selection, health & safety, performance management, compensation & benefits, training & development.

Position Summary:

  • Provide leadership and direction in developing and sustaining all Labour Relations initiatives
  • Direct the negotiation of the Collective agreement and provide advice on all labour and employment related matters, including the interpretation and application of and compliance with the Collective agreement, grievance handling and resolution, discipline and discharge, mediation and arbitration, and workplace investigations and resolutions, while fostering harmonious labour/management relations
  • Contribute to organizational development, including succession planning and change management
  • Ensure a strong commitment to supporting the health, safety and wellness of all staff
  • Responsibility for equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives Participate in organizational strategic planning and implementation of strategic initiatives
  • Develop, design and implement HR policies, practices and programs that support the operation of the organization and the culture of innovation
  • Oversee, lead, coach and develop direct reports
  • Participate in and lead various committees Involvement in community events, partnerships and collaborations 
  • Oversee benefit and pension plans including annual review and legislative requirements
  • Recommend and support operational decisions through the effective analysis of HR data
  • Establish and maintain an excellent working relationship and rapport with all staff and individuals supported

Qualifications:

  • HR professional with 7+ progressive years of experience, in all areas of Human Resources Relevant post-secondary education specializing in Human Resources
  • CHRP or CHRL designation required
  • Previous experience in a not for profit organization would be an asset
  • Full understanding and demonstrated working knowledge of Employee and Labour Legislation and Compliance requirements; i.e., Employment Standards Act, Ontario Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights legislation, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Community and Children Social Services
  • Excellent analytical and interpretation skills in order to ensure compliance with collective agreement and internal policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, consulting, problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated experience in a unionized environment, administering labour contracts, grievance resolution and negotiations
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience building and maintaining solid relationships that promote collaboration and trust
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
  • Maintenance of various HR systems – experience with Ceridian Dayforce would be an asset
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) required (must have been completed within 6 months of hire)
