Under the direction of the Vice-President, Human Resources & Strategic Planning, or designate, you will manage various human resources activities in consultation with business units. This will include talent management (i.e. compensation, job analysis, recruitment and selection, onboarding, learning and development and associated software, performance management, resource planning); corporate programs (DEI, mental wellness); culture/engagement, recognition and retention programs; employee-related policy development; employment standards and regulations; and employee-related recordkeeping and reporting. A champion of best practices in all things HR, you will also assist with labour relations matters, and assist the VP of Human Resources & Strategic Planning with departmental initiatives.

 

JOB DUTIES

 

More specifically, as Manager of Human Resources, you will:

 

  • Supervise, and provide technical and administrative direction to, the HR Coordinator. Plan, recommend, implement and continuously evaluate the corporation’s talent strategy, with an aim to attract, develop and retain engaged, high-performing employees and teams, and maximize organizational effectiveness.  Develop, implement and maintain optimal and consistent practices in recruitment, retention and employee performance management and development.  Manage the departmental training plan and budget. Coordinate the creation of in-house course material, orientation and onboarding materials, and various development programs (e.g. trades/apprentices, professional, leadership).  Design, configure and maintain the corporation’s performance-management/review, employee-recognition and corporate culture/engagement processes and systems, and provide support to the corporation on related best practices, methodologies and techniques. Compile, prepare, and distribute analyses, reports, studies, and statistical data for management purposes, bargaining and other departmental matters. Assist with maintaining departmental statistics. Contribute to the maintenance of job descriptions, and job evaluation/pay equity maintenance processes.    Address departmental and/or labour relations matters in the absence of the Vice-President, Human Resources & Strategic Planning. Contribute to labour relations and collective bargaining strategy and activities, and collective-agreement interpretation and compliance.  Assist with departmental initiatives and projects. Monitor the legislative/regulatory environment on human resources matters and coordinate change management, as needed. Develop and maintain employment-related corporate policy and procedures.    Ensure the accuracy and maintenance of the Learning Management System (LMS) and electronic and paper-based employee and departmental records.   Contribute to the corporation’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and mental wellness programs.  Participate in other committees and working groups, as needed.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety Act rules and regulations, the IHSA's Electrical Utility Safety Rules, London Hydro safe work practices and procedures, and all components of London Hydro's health and safety program.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

The qualified Manager of Human Resources we seek must be able to meet the following requirements:

 

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a related field PLUS additional specialized training.  More than five (5) years of progressive human-resources experience, ideally in a unionized environment. Strong leadership, interpersonal, managerial, coaching, negotiation/mediation, change management and conflict-resolution skills. Proven ability to establish strong collaborative working relationships, including excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and business acumen. Team-oriented and results-driven approach with strong supervisory skills. Analytical thinking, excellent research and analytical skills, and attention to detail. Proficiency using a personal computer and appropriate software packages.  A high degree of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Experience in/knowledge of the electricity sector (an asset).
