The Human Resources Strategic Business Unit (HR SBU) supports the implementation of corporate initiatives and their core businesses and policy priorities by providing comprehensive human resources advice, policy direction, strategic planning, and interpretation of collective agreements and related legislation. The HR SBU partners with senior management to influence decision-making and planning by providing expertise on large transformational initiatives, talent and performance management, workforce and human capital planning, organizational culture, capacity and engagement, organizational health, safety and wellness, and strategic labour relations.

What can I expect to do in this role?

 

In this role, you can expect to be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team. Teams across the SolGen HR Strategic Business Unit work collaboratively with each other to support and deliver a vast array of HR services to the ministry.

 

Portfolios include:

 

Corrections Attendance Support Management Office (CASMO)

 

Provides front-line managers with direct HR support for managing the Employee Attendance Support Program (EASP) deliverables, as part of a strategy to reduce absenteeism for identified areas within SolGen and MCCSS (Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services). This includes attendance tracking, early intervention strategies, meeting administration/facilitation and employee accommodation support.

 

Conflict Management Office (CMO)

 

Provides front-line managers and staff with micro and macro workplace restoration and conflict management support across the Ministry of the Solicitor General.

 

Corrections Recruitment Support Unit (CRSU)

 

Provides front-line managers in Correctional Services with recruitment support on non-Correctional Officer recruitment files and is also responsible for the macro-level creation of recruitment strategies for large-scale recruitment initiatives.

 

Systemic Organizational Renewal Team (SORT)

 

Specializes in providing guidance, support and facilitation on Strategic Inclusive Workplace Initiatives, including, but not limited to, equity, diversity and inclusion, employee engagement and workplace culture at SolGen.

 

Leadership Development & Coaching Culture (LDCC)

 

Provides macro-level leadership development and coaching for front-line and specialized ministry successor cohorts and provides managers with coach-specific training.

 

Strategic Labour Relations, Health Safety & Wellness, and Executive Services

 

Provides client services to some divisions in the Community Safety and Correctional Services portfolios. The team also oversees various pillar services for the entire ministry, including executive services, strategic labour relations, human rights complaints, and health, safety and wellness strategies.

 

Talent Optimization and Strategic Workforce Analytics Team (TOSWAT)

 

Provides client services to the Corporate Divisions/Associate DM of the ministry and leads pillar services in talent, performance and succession management and executive leadership programs.

 

The SWAT team collectively manages talent/succession management reporting, and public service salary disclosure, oversees FTE management, labour costing strategies, workforce trends & data analysis, and develops and implements business intelligence solutions for ministry clients and the HR SBU.

 

Correctional Services Unit

 

The HR Business Advisor in the Corrections portfolio is responsible for delivering HR support to the leadership in Institutional and Community Services. The position also assists in the achievement of deliverables, providing responses to complex HR issues and inquiries, as well as supporting project work.

 

Community Safety Unit

 

The HR Business Advisor on the Community Safety team serves as a trusted advisor to executive leaders by providing strategic HR advice and support in a variety of areas, including human capital planning, organizational design, change management, talent management, employee engagement, and labour relations issues. The position supports executives in achieving business results through HR people strategies.

How do I qualify?

 

Knowledge of Human Resources Management Principles and Practices:

 

• You have a keen understanding of, and expertise in, industry human resources practices and trends, including experience leading or supporting human capital planning initiatives.
• You are knowledgeable about HR legislation, policies and programs in several of the following strategic HR knowledge areas: diversity & inclusion, anti-racism, workforce analytics, succession planning, leadership development, organizational design, employee engagement, strategic labour relations, health and wellness, change management and culture change, and can apply that knowledge in providing advice to senior executives.
• You have experience with supporting transformational initiatives and organizational change and development initiatives through organizational design, job and competency design, gap analysis, union-management relationship-building and workforce adjustment/deployment/in-placement strategies.

 

Leadership and Project Management Skills:

 

• You have demonstrated strong project management and strategic planning skills and experience to lead, oversee and coordinate large-scale strategic human resources projects and initiatives under tight timelines and with limited resources, involving a wide range of stakeholders and contributors.
• You have strategic planning skills to effectively translate OPS and ministry priorities into integrated strategies and develop implementation and evaluation plans, resources and tools for action.
• You have the demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and/or working groups of professional staff who are not direct reports.

 

Conceptual and Analytical Skills:

 

• You are a conceptual thinker with proven strong analytical and research skills to monitor and evaluate programs, identify impacts, develop recommendations, and understand and interpret complicated business initiatives.
• You have proven ability to research, analyze, synthesize and interpret program data and provide feasible solutions and recommendations.

 

Consulting, Relationship Management and Presentation Skills:

 

• You have developed and sustained solid working relationships with clients, colleagues and internal/external partners.
• You act with integrity, your commitment to confidentiality is unquestioned and you can develop appropriate responses to sensitive situations.
• You have demonstrated exceptional written communication skills to develop programs and prepare reports, recommendations, briefing materials, presentation decks and communications materials.
• You have demonstrated exceptional oral communication and presentation skills to effectively facilitate results-oriented discussions with clients/stakeholders and the ability to influence decision-making.

 

Salary Range: $75,626 - $111,441 Per Year
