We are quickly becoming the fastest growing manufacturer in the fabric building industry, and need skilled, passionate individuals to join our growing team! Primary Location: 688 Josephine Street, Wingham, ON
Standard Hours: 8 am – 5 pm; Monday – Friday
Travel Requirements: May be required to travel throughout Canada and US to support business needs.
Ability to work Remote: As per company policy
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Wage: $90,000 - $120,000

Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources must embody the values and vision of Britespan supporting the organizational culture. While leading the day-to-day functions of the HR team, this role will support all divisions, leadership, and employees within Britespan by leading and facilitating company policies, procedures, recruitment, and employee relations while operating to foster a healthy company culture based on our core values. Key to the role is formulating partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added services to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization.

All employees are to participate in, and positively contribute to the company culture, Health and Safety initiatives, continuous improvement and abide by the Employment Standards Act and all company policies and procedures while maintaining a customer service mindset.

 

Position Qualifications:

Education & Knowledge

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources 
  • CHRP/CHRL/CHRE designation
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, processes, policies, relevant employment standards, and legislation
  • Knowledge of Canadian and US employment law and related legislation; Primarily Ontario, and Michigan
    • Exposure to Alberta, Quebec, Saskatchewan, California, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, Montana, South Carolina, New York – asset
  • Standard First Aid and Mental Health First Aider – asset

  • 12+ years of human resources experience as an HRBP
  • 7+ years in an HR leadership role in a professional corporate environment

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and Develop Standard Operating Procedures, Policies, Workflows, and Processes that support consistency and efficiency within the HR department and organization
  • Drive Departmental and Organizational activities and needs associated with the Human Resources
  • Provide direct reports with direction, guidance, and coaching on day-to-day activities by ensuring the team is building positive relationships and credibility across all levels of the organization
  • Contribute to and develop the organizations’ people’s strategy, focusing on team and culture
  • Develop and execute organizational planning, engagement strategies, succession planning, diversity & inclusion practices, talent acquisition, learning & development, performance management, and compensation
  • Partner closely with Senior Management and Operations Leadership Team, offering advice and direction on go-forward strategies and operational planning
  • Partner with leadership to establish consistent performance management, career planning, and compensation benchmarking
  • Consult, coach, and influence Leaders and Managers in all aspects of their team members’ employees and help drive team effectiveness
  • Supports organizational and leaderships efforts to effectively manage & lead change
  • Provide the team with day-to-day guidance and support on more complex HR matters
  • Provide professional, clear, and constructive communication to employees and leadership
  • Ensure employee relations issues are resolved appropriately and timely and operate in a closed-loop communication environment
  • Lead all aspects of employee relations issues sensitively and effectively, by working with leaders, managers, and employment counsel as needed
  • Identify and problem-solve employee matters strategically, fairly, and thoughtfully
  • Oversee all HR KPI’s and provide organizational support for other departments
  • Hire HR team members, and manage performance, coaching, and priorities within the department
  • Driving a positive HR team environment while executing efficiently and accurately
  • Responsible for managing such initiatives as the attendance and / or the quality incentive
  • Support the organization’s safety programs and goals
  • Driving ADP’s HRIS development
  • Maintain company organization charts and employee directory
  • Policy / procedure development and implementation
  • Ensure job descriptions are up to date and compliant with all regulations
  • Canada Ontario Job Grant and other government funding sourcing, application and program facilitation
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Oversee and facilitate periodic employee surveys, compiling results back to management and assisting in closing the loop with employees on outcomes and actions as a result
  • Point of contact for any independent government organizations such as MOL & MOE
  • Ensure organizational compliance regarding regulations and laws by executing necessary policies and procedures. (e.g., WSIB/Workers Compensation, (Mi)OSHA, etc.)
  • Embody and promote the values of Britespan
  • Manage and advise throughout the employment lifecycle, including:
    • International recruitment & selection
    • Collaborate with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required
    • Temporary Foreign Worker Program (including LMIA application and audit)
    • Onboarding management and facilitation
    • Respirator Fit program training and administration
    • Benefit and pension management
    • Safety initiatives and compliance
    • WSIB / Workers Compensation, RTW & LTD claims management
    • Oversee the return to work of staff, the ability to remain at work for injured or disabled staff, duty to accommodate issues, or other performance related issues involving illness or disability
    • Training program development and facilitation; internal and external
    • Workforce compensation planning and trend forecasting; COLA, market, & retention
    • Time and attendance tracking
    • Design and implement employee retention strategies
    • Conduct performance and salary reviews
    • Succession planning
    • Progressive discipline and workplace investigations
