Labour Relations - London Health Sciences Centre

Reporting to the Manager of Employee & Labour Relations, the Workplace Investigations Specialist is responsible for investigating complex workplace complaints, from receipt to completion, received under various London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) policies and legislation.  Where appropriate, the Workplace Investigations Specialist will assist with mediating resolutions or arranging for the mediation of resolutions by a third party. The Workplace Investigations Specialist will support the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, protocols and practices related to investigations, will ensure that best practices with respect to workplace investigations and report writing are followed across the organization. They  will facilitate all levels of training and education related to workplace investigations and the applicable policies and legislation. 

How You'll Contribute:

An integral part of the LHSC Employee and Labour Relations Team, the Workplace Investigation Specialist's role will include:

  • Monitoring the various policies and channels through which LHSC staff and affiliates file complaints; triaging these complaints for urgency, complexity, sensitivity and organizational risk; and ensuring these complaints are appropriately investigated through internal team, organizational or expert external resources;
  • Leading the investigation  of the more highly sensitive and complex complaints, including those involving physicians and leaders;
  • Developing clear and comprehensive investigation reports in accordance with best practices and policy/legislative requirements, including proposing comprehensive recommendations and remedial actions based on findings;
  • Independently managing assigned caseload, prioritizing cases based on urgency and organizational risk, bringing investigations to a close rapidly and definitively;
  • Where appropriate, engaging in creative problem solving to address workplace conflicts through varying alternative dispute resolution techniques;
  • Identifying trends and opportunities for proactive issue mitigation; producing strategic recommendations to the business to proactively address systemic issues and improve organizational practices with respect to the investigation of workplace complaints;
  • Developing and delivering comprehensive training for Leaders and HR on workplace investigation policies and programs, as well as the policies and legislation that govern.

As the ideal candidate, you have:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business, Paralegal or Social Sciences
  • Successful completion of Human Resources Management Certificate is required if the completed degree is not HR related
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation (preferred)
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent relevant experience
  • Expert knowledge of workplace investigations processes and report writing
  • Knowledge of human resource principles, procedures, practices and relevant legislation
  • Ability to organize and prioritize competing demands
  • Advanced critical thinking skills
  • Advanced mediation skills
  • Ability to engage stakeholders, facilitate crucial conversations and negotiate solutions to challenging issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer programs (PeopleSoft, Workbrain, Microsoft Office 365)
  • Labour relations experience with ONA, OPSEU and UNIFOR is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
