Position Overview:

The Director, Talent and Workforce Planning will be responsible for building talent strategies aligned with SHN’s vision to attract top talent and diverse candidates across all levels of the organization. Using advanced people analytics, the Director will develop predictions of current and future talent demands in support of the organizational strategies to fulfill its human resources needs based on this modeling. Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, People and partnering closely with operations and other members of the People Services team, they will create and implement strategies to leverage the Employer Brand and culture to support current and future business workforce requirements. The Director will partner with other HR leaders to support the organization to optimize human capital performance data to drive organizational strategy to build and sustain a dynamic workforce.  This individual would oversee the recruitment function as well as volunteer services and non-clinical student placements.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for building talent strategies aligned with SHN’s vision to attract top talent and diverse candidates across all levels of the organization.
  • Leads and oversees the recruitment team as well as the volunteer services team to introduce robust synergies between volunteer services and the recruitment team.
  • Using available people analytics, the Director will develop predictions of current and future talent demands in support of the organizational strategies to fulfill its human resources needs based on predictive modeling. Partnering closely with operations and Human Resource teams, they will create and implement strategies to leverage the Brand and culture to support current and future business workforce requirements.
  • Supports the organization to optimize human capital performance data to drive organizational strategy to build and sustain a dynamic workforce.
  • Develops effective strategies for identifying skills gaps within the workforce and strategies to address this.
  • Understands the current recruitment trends and the industry/market to identify the impact upon the business.
  • Builds a high-performance Recruitment team to act in a proactive, consultative and productive business manner.
  • Fosters a recruitment team mindset focused on operational excellence, productivity, accountability, continuous improvement.
  • Supports the organization’s needs for human capital performance data to enable workforce optimization a strategic workforce analysis and planning.
  • Educates and advocates for operational practices that consistent, fair and lead the industry best in class practices in partnership with the leaders within the People Services portfolio and beyond.
  • Accountable for evolving a comprehensive recruitment strategy that enables to attract, motivate and retain top talent.
  • Provides subject matter expertise, oversight and leadership for all recruitment and strategies, operations, initiatives, and tactics, including focus on measurement of results.
  • Monitors and measures the results of the recruitment strategy to ensure that it is meeting the organizational imperatives and then prepares and presents routine updates and reports at senior levels of the organization to demonstrate the progress and impacts of the strategy as vital to the enablers for the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Builds a framework and partnership with the Education team for an effective organizational recruiting strategy, developing a consistent program to be deployed and increasing student conversion year over year.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders such as the Organizational Development and Health Equity and Health System Integration teams in the development and maintenance of effective programs for workforce retention, promotion and succession planning.
  • Establishes and maintains talent market expertise including a comprehensive view of industry trends and competitors, innovative recruiting techniques, provide expertise in market insights and talent landscape.
  • Works closely with Communications/Marketing to translate employee value proposition into unique branding, attraction and recruitment strategies including online presence and through social media.

Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field; Masters degree preferred CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) or equivalent designation
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership/management experience as a Human Resources practitioner in a large, unionized organization (preferably in health care)
  • Deep knowledge of recruitment, employer branding, workforce planning and retention strategies
  • Strong Human Resources generalist with extensive knowledge of the range of ‘people’ functions including core human resources, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), recruitment, retention, employer branding, workforce planning
  • Demonstrated experience with management of major change initiatives
  • Good understanding of hospital operations and the broader health care system
  • Ability to think strategically and translate into operational action
  • Excellent communication skills:  written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Strong team engagement, facilitation and coaching skills to build team morale and improve culture
  • Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to link the people experience with quality outcomes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement and project management tools and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and influence relationships at all levels: excellent interpersonal skills, negotiation skills and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion Analytical skills to develop and interpret metrics and design reports to inform decision-making
  • Strong fiscal experience including preparing budget proposals, briefing notes and business cases, monitoring fiscal performance and implementing strategies to improve efficiency and outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic alliances and partnerships with health system, academic and private sector partners
