The Faculty of Engineering at Western University is a vibrant teaching and research centre that consists of six academic units: Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Mechanical & Materials Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, School of Biomedical Engineering and the John M. Thompson Centre for Engineering Leadership & Innovation. It is also home to several outstanding research centres and institutes including the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory, Wind Engineering, Energy and Environment Research Institute, The Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources, University Machine Services and the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Composites Research.
About the Role
The Associate Director, Human Resources will provide leadership to an operational team and will oversee and manage the implementation of staff and faculty human resources strategy, functions and processes across the Faculty. The role will work in collaboration with the Dean and other leaders to develop, implement and monitor business processes and strategies relating to the recruitment, appointment, on-boarding, development, engagement and promotion of all staff supporting the Faculty, as well as provide leadership and guidance to labour relations processes. The role will identify areas for improvement and design new and revised practices with controls in place to ensure high quality employment experiences and appropriate resources and controls are in place to manage legal and operational risks. The position will implement and monitor human resources' programs within the Faculty and will ensure they are carried out in accordance with University policies and procedures, collective agreements, and government legislation. The role will also lead recruitment and engagement strategies to ensure alignment with Faculty and Western's Strategic Plans. The role will ensure that highly efficient, client-focused and responsive services are delivered to the Faculty community and will provide coaching and training to their team, as well as comprehensive advice and support to all leaders in the Faculty.
About You
As our ideal candidate, you are a strong people leader, with the ability to develop a shared vision to lead employees and teams to excellence. Your advanced ability to effectively communicate, lead business discussions and educate others are enhanced by your experience in human resources management, project management and change management. You have an in-depth knowledge of human resources principles and practices, conditions of employment, the Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation. You show mastery in problem solving and have a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities. You have an ability to provide strategic analysis and recommendations for designing and implementing new and changing human resources processes.
These skills are complemented by your Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources/Industrial Relations, Psychology, Business Administration or a related field, and a professional designation as a Certified Human Resources Leader. Courses completed in conflict resolution and/or mediation would be an asset.
