Position Job Title: Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) 

Location: Niagara Falls, ON (Hybrid) 

Reports To: Director, Human Resources 

 Position Overview  

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) will serve as a strategic partner to academic departments and administrative units, providing comprehensive human resources support and aligning HR strategies with the goals and objectives of the university. Aligned to a specific portfolio or area of the institution, the HRBP will work closely with faculty, staff, and administration to address HR needs and promote a positive workplace culture. 

 Key Responsibilities  

Strategic HR Partnership: 

  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to leaders on the performance of their staff and operations, as it relates to HR programs and processes, help leaders to complete these processes 
  • Act as a trusted advisor on confidential or sensitive workplace issues. 
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to develop and implement HR strategies that support the university’s mission and goals. 
  • Provide guidance on organizational design, workforce planning, and change management. 
  • Analyze HR metrics and trends to inform decision-making and policy development. 
  • Collaborates with HR Generalist and Recruitment advisors to ensure daily HR operations expectations are met for their portfolio. 

 

Employee Relations: 

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to faculty and staff on HR-related issues, including performance management, conflict resolution, and employee development. 
  • Conduct thorough and objective investigations into employee concerns and complaints, ensuring fair and consistent resolution. 
  • In partnership with the leader, administer appropriate discipline and performance management steps.  
  • Conduct terminations and ensure appropriate documentation is maintained 
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge and advice in employment standards, human rights legislation and related governance to ensure a positive work culture 
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment through effective communication and relationship-building. 

 

Talent Management: 

  • Support recruitment and retention efforts by partnering with hiring managers to identify talent needs, develop job descriptions, and conduct interviews. 
  • Partner with the HR Generalist to ensure smooth onboarding and orientation programs and smooth transition for new employees. 
  • Identifies high potential employees, works with leaders to develop succession plans 
  • Conducts annual workforce planning with leaders, facilitates critical resource planning discussions at budget cycles. Communicates workforce plan to recruitment advisors 
  • Review’s organizational structure, provides recommendations on structure, job levels and job evaluation processes 
  • Provides recommendation om HR programs like performance management, merit bonus and organizational training 
  •  Promote professional development opportunities and career pathing for faculty and staff. 

Compliance and Policy Implementation: 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial and local employment laws and university policies. 
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety for the university. 
  • Develop, implement, and communicate HR policies and procedures. 
  • Stay current with HR best practices and legal requirements, making recommendations for policy and process improvements. 

HR Operations: 

  • Collaborate with HR team members to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. 
  • Utilize HR information systems to manage data and generate reports. 

 

Position Requirements   

Education and Experience 

  • Post Secondary Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.  
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in HR, with at least 3 years in a strategic HR business partner role. 
  • Proven experience in leading organizational development, employee relations, talent management programs 
  • Previous experience within an academic work environment is an asset. 
  • Previous experience with using and analyzing data from HR Technologies (ADP WFN) 
  • Professional HR certification CHRL 

 

Competencies 

  • Strong knowledge of ESA, employment laws and regulations. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands. 
  • Experience using HR technology such as ADP WFN. 
  • Excellent written and communication skills 
  • Behavioral elements such as: good judgment, adaptability, persuasiveness, strategic thinking, decision making, resilience, resourcefulness, enthusiastic and meticulous attention to details 
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment, diplomacy and discretion, and to maintain confidentiality 
  • Ability to multi-task, while staying flexible and organized; Deadline-driven. 
  • Previous experience within a start-up environment or experience in building HR programs/processes is an asset
