Human Resources/Health & Safety Coordinator 

The Municipality of West Perth is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Human Resources/Health and Safety Coordinator. Located in Southwestern Ontario, West Perth is a thriving, caring community that offers diverse opportunities to live, work, and play.  With a population of 9,000, the community features a strong agriculture sector with significant contributions from other sectors including manufacturing, retail and services.  The fully serviced community of Mitchell is the main population center of West Perth and there are opportunities for rural living in nearby hamlets and villages. 

Your Next Career Move

Reporting to the CAO, this position provides technical expertise and administrative support regarding human resources and health and safety functions. As well, assists with long-range human resources strategic initiatives, championing the corporate mission, vision and values.

  • Perform and complete an objective full cycle recruitment and selection process. Act a contact for staff with their concerns, complaints and inquiries. Support and provide technical advice to management in handling human resources related matters. Maintain personnel files. Responsible for effective claims management. Assist with creation, implementation and maintenance of health and safety policies and procedures to ensure consistency across all departments. Coordinate and support the Joint Health and Safety Committee activities. Conduct onsite investigation of accidents and incidents related to health and safety matters. Reporting all accidents to WSIB. Provide budget assistance relating to staffing.

What it Takes to do the Job

  • College Diploma in business administration, human resources, health and safety, disability management or related discipline is required. Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation, considered an asset. Certificate in Disability Management, considered an asset. Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification, considered an asset. Minimum three years applicable experience. Thorough knowledge and understanding of human resources and health and safety principles, practices, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act, Ontario Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Commission, WSIA, other applicable legislations and regulations. Ability to attend evening meetings.
