Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site in Ontario (Ottawa, Toronto or Brampton) and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Director, Talent Strategy to join our dynamic Talent Strategy team in our People, Culture and Performance division

 

The Talent Strategy team is responsible for developing key business capabilities that directly contribute to both the employee experience at Canadian blood Services and to the organization’s ability to respond to changing needs, emerging trends, and business risks related to talent. 

 

In this role, you will report to the Vice-President, People, Culture and Performance and will oversee a portfolio that includes: 

  • Talent strategy
  • Employee experience
  • Leadership development and succession planning
  • Talent development
  • People analytics and reporting
  • Organizational development and change

 

Formula for success 

  • Leveraging your strategic planning and delivery experience, you will lead the organizational process which translates corporate and divisional strategies into clearly defined organizational capabilities in which long term people and talent requirements are defined, assessed and planned for. 
  • Harnessing your people leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills, you will lead a team with subject matter experts who work with leadership teams to identify talent requirements from divisional strategies and create and execute effective interventions. 
  • Utilizing your ability to lead and work collaboratively across diverse teams, you will provide leadership, guidance and direction over activities related to building employee experience capability across the organization. 
  • Drawing on your expertise in employee development, you will oversee the organization’s development function, including strategy, initiative design and delivery, to continuously improve the organizations talent bench strength and create an employee experience that enables development and personal growth.
  • Applying your excellent communication skill, you will ensure the stability and quality of the organization’s leadership community by leading an effective leadership succession planning process and supporting the organizations leadership recruitment efforts 
  • Focusing on your knowledge of people analytics and reporting, you will deliver insights into the current state of the employee base across a range of dimensions through employee experience surveys and by telling insightful stories using analytics. 

 

Desired education and skills

  • A minimum of 10 years comprehensive and varied experience in a related field, including 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience leading direct and indirect reports as well as managing budgets.
  • Meaningful experience in a unionized environment, preferably in a regulated (GMP manufacturing) or health care setting, including experience management, talent planning, capability development and organizational effectiveness. 
  • Change management experience in guiding leaders to create an environment that facilitates and encourages positive change. 
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location a minimum of 40% of the time/2 days of the week, subject to change.
  • Travel will be required, at a minimum, monthly to other Canadian Blood Services centres nationally, and as required.
